Integrated safety simplifies configurationIntegrated safety reduces the need for external safetycomponents, simplifying configuration and reducinginstallation space. The safety functionality is a built-in featureof the ACS880, with safe torque off (STO) as standard.Additional safety functions can be commissioned with theoptional and compact safety functions module that includessafe stop 1 (SS1), safe stop emergency (SSE), safely-limitedspeed (SLS), safe brake control (SBC) and safe maximumspeed (SMS). The drives’ functional safety is designedaccording to EN/IEC 61800-5-2 and complies with therequirements of the European Union Machinery Directive2006/42/EC.Safe torque off as standardSafe torque off (STO) is used to prevent unexpected startupand in stopping-related functions, enabling safe machinemaintenance and operation. With safe torque off activated,the drive will not provide a rotational field. This prevents themotor from generating torque on the shaft. This functioncorresponds to an uncontrolled stop in accordance with stopcategory 0 of EN 60204-1.The safety functions moduleThe easy to connect and configure safety functions moduleFSO-11 comes with a range of safety functions and a selfdiagnosticfunction that meets current safety requirementsand standards, in one compact module. Compared to usingexternal safety components, the FSO-11 comes with thesupported functions seamlessly integrated with the drivefunctionality, reducing the implementation of safety functionconnections and configuration. Installing FSO-11 results inless needs for cabling and provides a cost-effective solutionpacked into a single safety functions module to ensure safeoperation. Commissioning and configuration of the safetyfunctions is done with the Drive composer pro PC tool. Thedrive and FSO-11 are easy to connect to a safety PLC usingPROFIsafe over profinet fieldbus adapter module (FENA-11).The safety functions module supports the following safetyfunctions (which achieve up to SIL 3 or PL e safety level (Cat. 3)):FSO-11 can be also ordered as spare part kit. The kit includesmost common assembly accessories for ACS880 drives.− Safe stop 1 (SS1) brings the machine to a stop (STO)using a monitored deceleration ramp. It is typically usedin applications where the machinery motion needs to bebrought to a stop (stop category 1) in a controlled waybefore switching over to the no-torque state.− Safe stop emergency (SSE) can be configured to, uponrequest, either activate STO instantly (category 0 stop),or first initiate motor deceleration and then, once the motorhas stopped, activate the STO (category 1 stop).− Safe brake control (SBC) provides a safe output forcontrolling the motor’s external (mechanical) brakes,together with STO.− Safely-limited speed (SLS) ensures that the specifiedspeed limit of the motor is not exceeded. This allowsmachine interaction to be performed at slow speed withoutstopping the drive. Drive application programming with CODESYSAutomation Builder, ABB’s new software suite for automationengineering, makes programming of industry devices suchas drives, PLC’s, robots and human machine interfaces (HMI)easy using one Integrated engineering suite. The AutomationBuilder is used both for engineering individual industry devicesand for putting together entire automation projects. It is basedon CODESYS, a widely used software environment that fulfillsmany different requirements of industrial automation projects,according to the IEC standard 61131-3. As a single tool, theAutomation Builder reduces time typically needed for systemconfiguration and programming. It also reduces the need forinstalling and maintaining separate programs simultaneously.Automation Builder enables the possibility to do onlinediagnostic checking of multiple tasks performed by differentindustrial devices such as ACS880 drives.Drive application programmingAutomation Builder makes it possible for system integratorsand machine builders to integrate their desired functionalityand know-how directly into ACS880 drives. This is possibleas ACS880 drives come with CODESYS programmingcapability embedded inside the drive. Designing a CODESYSbasedapplication program in the drive makes the end userapplication run more efficiently, even without a separateprogrammable controller. It also brings higher end-productquality and requires less need for installation space and wiring.Automation Builder lets you extend the standard functionalityof parameter functions for ACS880 drives. This makes theACS880 drives very flexible to meet exact requirements set forend user applications. The library management functionalityin Automation Builder shortens engineering time as reuse ofexisting program code is possible. Additional features includethe ability to select and use one of five different programminglanguages, effective program debugging and user passwordprotection.Integrated engineering suite for operating several industrycomponents togetherUsing the Drive manager tool embedded in AutomationBuilder together with ABB’s AC500 PLC gives the user onlineconnection to all drives in a fieldbus network. This speeds upcommissioning and makes diagnostic of the entire automationsystem easy. Automation Builder saves all the configurationdata of industry devices (including drive parameter settings)and program code to the same project archive.
