August 2014WELCOME BACK SEACLIFF FAMILIESDear Huntington Seacliff Parents and Students,Welcome back to our website! I hope that you have had time to rest and spend time with familyand friends. We have been working to prepare for the most important day of the year; The FirstDay of School! We welcome all of our returning and new Sea Stars to Seacliff. A specialwelcome to our class of 2026! As your new principal, I can hardly wait to meet all of you!We have several new returning and new staff members. Darcy Lewis returns to job-share akindergarten class with Stacy Britton. Kim Bollinger returns as our RSP (SAI) teacher. NoellePeterson, will fill our Library position. She comes to us from within the district having worked atmany other sites. We are currently interviewing for a new Health Clerk. Also this summer, many Seacliff staff participated in staff development opportunities and theyare returning to school energized with new and innovative, or strengthened instructionalstrategies. Three significant areas of focus this year will include: 1.) Continued implementationof an integrated math program. We will also be piloting new Math programs for a textbookadoption at the end of the year. 2.) Rigorous, focused staff development to continue to help usimplement the California Common Core Standards (CCCS) and 3.) Increasing teaching strategiesto effectively integrate technology to enhance learning. You will hear more about these goalsthroughout the year!Classroom assignments will be posted electronically again this year. The weekly e-mail bulletin,Sea Star eNews, will help ensure timely communication and reduce the volume of paper/flierssent home. Please refer to the newsletter to sign-up for the Sea Star eNews or simply look for theEnews button on our website. (Those already signed-up do NOT need to re-register.)Classroom assignments will be e-mailed as follows:Kindergarten, Grades 1-5: Friday, August 29 th at 5:00 P.M.

Just a reminder that Seacliff enrolls new students through the first day of school (and after);therefore, we are uncertain of the exact number of students in each grade until the school year isunderway. Please remember, per Board policy, many hours have been given to your child'splacement, and to balancing the classes. Therefore, student placement will not be changed duringthe first month of school, unless the actual enrollment greatly differs from the projectedenrollment and shifts must occur. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.Under the dynamic leadership of PTA President Martha Ventimiglia, the PTA has fabulousactivities and programs planned for the year! I encourage you to find out how you can getinvolved at our first PTA meeting on Tuesday, September 22 nd at 6:30 P.M. in the Multi-Purposeroom (MPR/Cafetorium). A huge thank you to newsletter editors, Amy Siok and Nicole Walker, for publishing the informative newsletter you will see three times a year. You should havereceived your first newsletter by mail already.During the summer, I am sure you family enjoyed the time to read. If you did, I hope youparticipated in our annual summer reading program, “Be a Smart Cookie - READ!” Pledgesheets can be submitted through the second week of school (until then, it’s not too late tocomplete the program). A recognition event for our Super Summer Readers will take place inearly fall. Watch for details! The Seacliff staff and I are excited to ensure your student has a positive and successfuleducational journey at Seacliff, a school with a long standing tradition of “SHINING withExcellence.” We look forward to an amazing yearAs always, please feel free to contact me if you have any questions regarding our schoolprogram.Dr. Huibregtse, Principal
