(GENERAL MANAGEMENT)INFORMATIONThis is <strong>the</strong> most general B.Com. degree option, and is a highlyrecommended qualification for anyone who would like to have a basicand solid background in general management, without immediatelyspecialising in any specific field <strong>of</strong> study. It prepares <strong>the</strong> student for awide variety <strong>of</strong> career choices such as management positions in variousareas <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> private sector as well as in <strong>the</strong> field <strong>of</strong> economics. A field <strong>of</strong> specialisation can be chosen at postgraduate level ifnecessary. (See chapter on postgraduate study).The core subjects for this degree centre around Economics on <strong>the</strong> onehand and Business Management on <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r (including Marketingand/or Financial Management). In <strong>the</strong> third academic year a choice maybe made between Accounting and Industrial Psychology as a majorsubject.Accounting must be taken at second-year level at least, an indication <strong>of</strong>its importance in <strong>the</strong> sphere <strong>of</strong> management.CONDITIONS FOR ADMISSIONRefer to <strong>the</strong> General university admission regulations as well as <strong>the</strong>Faculty admission regulations.TIMETABLE CLASHESStudents must compile <strong>the</strong>ir curriculums in accordance with <strong>the</strong> classand lecture hall timetable and <strong>the</strong> examination timetable, and arepersonally responsible to ensure that <strong>the</strong>re are no clashes.CURRICULUMStudents registering for <strong>the</strong> degree B.Com.
