The <strong>College</strong>community services, education services, a success center/library, the area small business development center and Retired& Senior Volunteer Program.The Spirit Lake Campus opened in 1984. In late 1995 thecampus moved into new facilities located at 800 21st Street. Thebuilding houses evening, liberal arts courses, a computer lab,community services, education services, success center/library.An instructional television system began offering courses to thearea in 1983. Beginning with two channels, six sites and fourcourses, the system now televises 40 to 50 live college coursesper semester to college sites. All courses necessary for a twoyearAssociate in Arts degree are offered on the system.The college is also a participant in the <strong>Iowa</strong> CommunicationsNetwork which allows sharing classes with other colleges in thestate via a state-of-the-art fiberoptic system. A classroom ateach campus is equipped for two-way television and audio.In addition, <strong>Iowa</strong> <strong>Lakes</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong> is a member ofthe <strong>Iowa</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong> Online Consortium providingextended online learning opportunities to our local service areaand beyond through the world wide web, www.iowacconline.org.The continuing education department uses classroom facilitiesat college-owned sites and in Area III school districts to deliverinstruction and services to local residents.Governance and AdministrationThe college is governed by a seven-member board of trusteeselected by the residents of Merged Area III. Administrative officesare located at 19 South Seventh Street in Estherville, whichhouses most members of the President’s Cabinet, central administrativestaff and the college administrative computer center.In addition to the college president, the President’s Cabinetconsists of a vice president of administration, executive dean ofinstruction and development, executive deans of theEmmetsburg and Estherville campuses, executive director ofcontinuing education/economic development, chief financial officer,executive director of institutional advancement, executivedirector of facilities managment, and the executive director ofmarketing.The President’s Cabinet, along with supervisory personnelfrom the Administrative Team, manages the operation of the collegedistrict.Accreditation<strong>Iowa</strong> <strong>Lakes</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong> isaccredited as an institution by theHigher Learning Commission of theNorth Central Association of <strong>College</strong>sand Schools, 30 North LaSalle Street,Suite 2400, Chicago, Illinois.In 1975,<strong>Iowa</strong> <strong>Lakes</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong> wasgranted accreditation by the North Central Association of <strong>College</strong>sand Schools (now known as the Higher Learning Commission orHLC). <strong>Iowa</strong> <strong>Lakes</strong> is accredited by the <strong>Iowa</strong> Department ofEducation. State accreditation cycles are coordinated with HLCcycles.The college is an institutional member of the AmericanAssociation of <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong>s. Programs are approved forveteran's education and by the U.S. Justice Department, theFederal Aviation Administration, and the <strong>Iowa</strong> Board of Nursing.Some academic programs have also sought and received accreditations.ProgramWeb pages provide details of these programlevelaccreditations.STUDENT SERVICESAdmission<strong>Iowa</strong> <strong>Lakes</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong> maintains an open-door policyof admission for students who have the ability, character andpreparation to benefit from the educational programs offered atthe college. Application forms may be obtained from high schoolcounselors or from any <strong>Iowa</strong> <strong>Lakes</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong> campus.Telephone requests may be directed to 1 866-IA LAKES(866/425-2537). Online applications can be made atwww.iowalakes.edu.Admission Policies-Credit Programs<strong>Iowa</strong> <strong>Lakes</strong> admits students to the arts and science, careeroption, vocational and technical programs who generally haveeither a high school diploma or its equivalent as determined bythe General Education Development (GED) testing program.Individuals who have not completed one or the other may beadmitted on an individual basis to various programs offered bythe college. The college also offers programs to assist with highschool completion or the GED tests.Admission to the college does not ensure admission to all programsoffered at <strong>Iowa</strong> <strong>Lakes</strong>. The college reserves the right toguide the placement of students on the basis of counseling,examinations, pre-enrollment interviews and past academicachievement, as well as available space in programs.All students applying for admission to credit programs at thecollege must submit a completed <strong>Iowa</strong> <strong>Lakes</strong> application form, atranscript of high school work or GED certification and officialtranscripts sent directly from each postsecondary institution ofhigher education attended. Basic skills assessment of English,reading and mathematics is done with every entering student at<strong>Iowa</strong> <strong>Lakes</strong>. The tests used are ASSET, COMPASS and theACT. Those who are underprepared for college level coursesmay need to take courses to develop these skills further beforeentering college English or mathematics. Nursing applicantsmust submit ACT program scores and attend an advising session.Some programs require medical examinations, and otherassessments before admission and/or advance fee deposits.Applicants will be notified of their admission to the college bythe dean of enrollment management.ReadmissionStudents who have formerly attended <strong>Iowa</strong> <strong>Lakes</strong> <strong>Community</strong><strong>College</strong> and who wish to return after an absence of a term (otherthan the summer session) should apply for readmission at theadmission office of the campus they plan to enter. Studentsreadmitted after an absence will be required to fulfill currentgraduation requirements.Transfer StudentsTransfer students must complete all admission requirementsincluding submission of official transcripts directly from everypostsecondary school or college attended whether or not creditwas earned.International StudentsA student from another country must complete the Admissionsapplication form and provide financial information, sponsorship,and TOEFL scores. Official transcripts of all secondary schooland higher education records must be sent directly to the admissionoffice. Notarized translations must be included for non-English language records. Transcripts must include specificdates of school attendance, courses taken during each year ofattendance, grades and the grading scale used. The college2
