Course DescriptionsAUT-890 Automotive Technology OJT, 4 cr.Automotive Technology OJT is designed to provide the studentwith the real work learning activities necessary to acquaint themwith the function of the modern automotive technician and theskills demanded of them.AviationAVI-105 Introduction to Aviation, 3 cr.Introduction to Aviation provides a broad understanding of allaspects of the air transportation and aerospace industries.Lectures cover what has happened in the industry to date withemphasis on present and future developments in airtransportation. The course examines the impact the airlineindustry is making on airports and other segments of aviationand aerospace.AVI-110 History of Aviation, 3 cr.History of Aviation presents historical antecedents leading to theconquest of the air and the evolution of aviation progress to thepresent day. The course is intended as an introductory coursefor those pursuing a major in aviation or considering aviation asa vocation or wanting to gain a historical perspective of thedevelopment of the field of aviation and aerospace.AVI-112 Sport Pilot Ground School 3 cr.Classroom ground school instruction in the fundamentals ofaerodynamics, flight environments, aircraft systems, aircraftperformance, weather, FAA regulations and the primary forms ofnavigation to become a Sport pilot.AVI-113 Sport Pilot Flight Lab 2 cr.The flight instruction required in the fundamentals ofaerodynamics, flight environments, aircraft systems, aircraftperformance, weather, FAA regulations and the primary forms ofnavigation to become a Sport pilot.AVI-114 Sport/Private Pilot Bridge Lab 1 cr.The flight instruction in the fundamentals of aerodynamics, flightenvironments, aircraft systems, aircraft performance, weather,FAA regulations and the primary forms of navigation to becomea private pilot. Prerequisite: Sport Pilot CertificateAVI-129 Employ Prep Aviation Careers, 1 cr.Teaches students how to prepare an aviation-type resume, coverletter, and how to handle an aviation job interview.AVI-139 Private Pilot Theory, 3 cr.Private Pilot Theory is designed to prepare those students whowant to obtain a Private Pilot Certificate with the informationneeded to successfully complete the FAA Private Pilot AirmenKnowledge Test. This course will cover such items as the fundamentalsof flight, aviation weather, airplane performance, andnavigation procedures along with flight planning and human factorsinvolved in flying an aircraft. For students not desiring flighttraining, this course will provide valuable insight into a mode oftransportation that will be an integral part of their futures.AVI-140 Private Pilot Ground School, 4 cr.Ground school instruction in the fundamentals of aerodynamics,the flight environment, aircraft systems, performance charts,weight and balance, weather and navigation, which prepares thestudent to pass the FAA written examination.AVI-180 Private Pilot Flight Lab I, 3 cr.Primary flight instruction in the basics of flying, leads to earninga Private Pilot Certificate from the FAA. The student will44complete a minimum of 40 flight hours. Prerequisite: SecondClass FAA Medical Certificate.AVI-212 Instrument Ground School, 4 cr.Ground school instruction in advanced aircraft systems;commercial flight maneuvers; review of weather, aircraftperformance, weight and balance, Federal Aviation Regulationsand aerodynamics. Prepares students to take the FAACommercial written test.AVI-215 Aviation Safety, 3 cr.This course provides the student with a detailed introduction toaspects of aviation safety as well as the associated componentsof flight human factors, aircraft technology, weather relatedaccidents and accident investigation. Prerequisite: AVI-105.AVI-220 Aviation Meteorology, 3 cr.This three hour credit course is a study of the basic componentsof the earth’s atmosphere and provides a basic foundation in themeteorological and environmental factors that influence theformation of the various weather patterns found in near andupper atmospheric levels over the continental United States andthe Northern Hemisphere. Included in the course will bediscussion on how weather influences the basic aerodynamicsof an aircraft in-flight and the basic pilot-static instrumentsystem.AVI-245 Commercial/Instrument Cross Ctry. Ft. Lab, 3 cr.The student builds total flight time and increases the solo crosscountryexperience. In the second portion of the course initialinstrument flight training is begun. Prerequisite: AVI-180 or holda Private Pilot Certificate.AVI-246 Commercial/Instrument Flight Lab, 3 cr.The student develops increased instrument flying skills. Atcompletion of the course the student should be able to earn theI n s t r u m e n t C o m m e r c i a l P i l o t C e r t i f i c a t e . P r e r e q u i s i t e : AV I - 2 4 5AVI-261 Commercial Pilot Ground School, 3 cr.Ground school instruction in instrument procedures, preparingstudents to take the FAA instrument written test. Topics includeinstrument approach procedures, advance weather analysis, airtraffic control procedures and advanced radio navigationprocedures.AVI-300 Flight Instrument Ground School, 3 cr.Preparation for taking the FAA written examination to become acertified flight instructor and instrument flight instructor, as wellas preparation for the FAA oral portion of the required flight testfor these two certificates Prerequisite: Instrument/CommercialPilot Certificate (Single Engine).AVI-301 Instrument Instructor, 1 cr.Prepares students to be instrument flight instructors. Thestudent will take the FAA flight test for this certificate atcompletion of the course. Prerequisite: Flight Instructor andInstrument Pilot Certificates.AVI-350 Flight Instructor Flight Lab, 3 cr.Transition to flying from the right seat in both the basic trainingaircraft and the high performance single engine aircraft. Atcompletion of the course the student takes the FAA flight test.Prerequisite: Commercial Instrument Pilot Certificate.AVI-400 Multi-Engine Rating, 1 cr.The student builds flight time and gains Pilot in Command
