usingthe Second Six loader, and inserted. men slide the Cylinder is loaded and Secondammo is lined up with chamber ring forward till it stops. Six is backed off cartridges.It:'fr..1.used on Bob's 30-X .22 rim fire conversionunit for the .45 auto and affords agood clean, square sight picture. It has anextra long elevation screw to allow for fulladjustment across the PPC course from50 to 7 yards. The low velocity .38 Specialwad-cutter round produces such a long, fast drop that this full adjustment is necessaw.Other accessories are available such asfull accuracy jobs and, to assure ignition, the firing pin is lengthened on the old warhorseModel 10.Aside from the standard 6 inch barrelversion that weighs in at 58 ounces, Bobhas built special 4 and 2'/2 inch versionsfor the hell of it. These little beauties reallyshoot and I had more fun with themthan I did the more serious styles. The conversion can also be added toany of the Smith & Wesson 'K' series or'N' frame series, Ruger Security Six or anyof the Colt double action models for thesame cost. After dry firing for several hours withthe new PPC revolver I loaded up the carwith 1,000 rounds of .38 Special wadcuttersand was off to the Burbank Rifle andRevolver Club range near Casteic, Cali-Left: Bob Day cuts forcing conein new barrel being Installed oncustomer's, Smith & Wesson M-10.fornia for some serious shooting. Settingseveral bullseye targets at the 25 yardrange I found the point of impact was afull 8 inches below my point of aim. Atfifty yards this would put the point of impactin the bull on a silhouette target witha head hold. Although not in the bull, thegroups were neat and round, and usuallyall the shots were touching. The recoil waslow with the sights barely leaving the targetdue to the excessive muzzle weight. To aid in the testing I used the SecondSix speed loader, a unique device thatholds six .38 Special or .357 rounds andallows you to load them simultaneouslywith one motion. This differs from otherloaders on the market in that it is not affectedby gravity. To load you insert thesix rounds into the chambers and slip thering located at the rear of the unit towardthe cylinder. This loads the cylinder, withthe sliding of the ring releasing the loadedcartridges. The combination of the Day 1500 conversionand the Second Six speed loadershould prove to be an excellentcombo for the PPC course.AMERICAN HANDGUNNER JULY/AUGUST 1977
