.38 Special 110 grain JHP, 9MM 112grain JSP, and .357 Magnum 150 grainJHP.The proof of any ammunition, ofcourse, is in the shooting. I loaded up myguns chronograph, and ammunition, andheaded for the nearest precinct range. Velocitieswere checked on my ChronographSpecialists Model CS-100, while expansionwas checked by firing into clean, drysand. While sand does not duplicate theresistance of flesh, it is an inexpensive testmedium that produces consistent results.Furthermore, it is readily available so thatreaders can conduct similar tests of theirown.The .38 Special and .357 Magnumloads were tested in 2" and 6" barrellengths, while the 9MM was tested in aearly production S&W Model 39 withfour inch barrel.The results of these tests are listedbelow;38 Spl. 110 gr. JHP2" bbl. a1087 fps expanded to .623"6" bbl. a1293 fps expanded to .691".357 Mag. 150 gr. JHP ' ,2" bbl. a1156 fps expanded to .672"6" bbl. a1346 fps expanded to ,813"9mm 112 gr. JSP4" bbl. @I253 fps expanded to .667"The original Super Vel ammunition wasnoted for its fine accuracy, and the newversion hasn't seemed to suffer at all asthe photos show. The Model 39 I used forthe 9MM tests has always been extremelysensitive about its diet, but fed the 112grain JSP load without a hitch.Bob Hamilton informs me that H&Hintends to add additional loads to theSuper Vel line from time to time.
