Review of M.I.DefinitionOur best current definition is this: Motivationalinterviewing is a directive, client-centeredcounseling style for eliciting behavior changeby helping clients to explore and resolveambivalence. Compared with nondirectivecounseling, it is more focused and goaldirected.The examination and resolution ofambivalence is its central purpose, and thecounselor is intentionally directive in pursuingthis goal.
