Grace Concrete ProductsDaracem ®SuperplasticiserDescriptionDaracem ® is an aqueous solution of chemicaldispersants combined with other chemicalswhich increase its beneficial effects on thequality and plasticity of a concrete mix.Daracem is a high range water reducer, commonly referred to as a superplasticiser. It is an aqueous solution of a modifiednaphthalene sulfonate. It is a low viscosityliquid which has been formulated by themanufacturer for use as received. Daracemcontains no added chloride. Daracem isformulated to comply with the followingchemical admixture specifications forconcrete: BS 5075: Part 3: 1985; SS320:1987; AS 1478 Type HWR (App C4,Class (g)(i).One litre of Daracem weighs approximately1.17 kg ± 0.02 kg.DispersionDaracem is a superior dispersing admixturehaving a marked capacity to disperse thecement agglomerates normally found in acement-water suspension. The capabilityof Daracem, in this respect, exceeds that ofnormal water-reducing admixtures.ApplicationsDaracem produces concrete with extremelyworkable characteristics referred to as highslump, flowing concrete. Daracem also allowsconcrete to be produced with very low water/cement ratios at low or normal slumps.Daracem is ideal for use in prestress, precast, bridge deck or any concrete whereit is desired to keep the water/cement ratioto a minimum and still achieve the degreeof workability necessary to provide easyplacement and consolidation. Daracem willalso fluidise concrete making it ideal fortremie concreting or other applications wherehigh slumps are desired.Advantages• The low sodium content of Daracem isparticularly useful in applications where alimit on the equivalent sodium oxide of themix design is specified.• Daracem can produce high slump flowableconcrete at no loss in strength.• Daracem can produce low water/cementratio concrete and therefore, high strengths.• Daracem, in prestress/precast work, can beused to substantially reduce or eliminate thehigh energy requirements of external heatfor accelerated curing.• Daracem concrete produced with Type Icement may be substituted for normalconcrete produced with Type III cement toachieve early release strengths.• Daracem concrete, even at high slump, exhibits no significant segregationin comparison to concrete without asuperplasticiser at the same slump.• Daracem aids in rapid discharge of concretefrom truck mixers thereby reducing on thejob time and improving mixer utilisation.

Addition RatesAddition rates of Daracem can vary with typeof application, but will normally range from400 to 1,500 mL / 100 kg of cementitiousmaterial. In most instances the addition of 400to 1,100 mL / 100 kg of cementitious materialwill be sufficient. At a given water/cementratio, the slump required for placement canbe controlled by varying the addition rate.Should job site conditions require using morethan recommended addition rates, pleaseconsult your Grace representative.Compatibility with OtherAdmixturesIn concrete containing Daracem, the use ofan air-entraining agent (such as Daravair ® orDarex ® AEA ® ) is recommended to providesuitable air void parameters for resistanceagainst freeze-thaw attack.Dispensing EquipmentA complete line of admixture dispensers isavailable. Accurate and easy to maintain, the dispensers are easily adapted to new orexisting batching plants.PackagingDaracem is available in bulk, and in 205Ldrums. Daracem contains no flammableingredients. It will begin to freeze atapproximately 0°C, but will return to fullstrength after thawing and agitation. In storage and for proper dispensing, Daracemshould be maintained at temperatures above0°C.Health and SafetySee Daracem Material Safety Data Sheet orconsult Grace Construction Products. Most water reducers or water-reducingretarders are compatible with Daracem aslong as they are separately added to theconcrete. Pretesting of the concrete should beperformed to optimise dosages and additiontimes of these admixtures. Caution should beexercised when using Daracem together witha retarder, as excessive retardation can occurif the admixture dosages are too high. Theadmixtures should not be in contact with eachother before they enter the concrete.www.graceconstruction.comAustralia: Adelaide (61-8) 8261 8622, Brisbane (61-7) 3277 7244, Melbourne (61-3) 9359 2121,Perth (61-8) 9353 3433, Sydney (61-2) 9743 8811Hong Kong (852) 2675 7898 Indonesia (62-21) 893 4260 Japan (81-3) 5405 2991 Korea (82-32) 820 0800China Mainland: Beijing (86-10) 6786 3488, Guangzhou (86-20) 3833 0775, Shanghai (86-21) 5467 4678Malaysia (60-3) 9074 6133 New Zealand: Auckland (64-9) 579 1320, Christchurch (64-3) 327 2173,Wellington (64-4) 238 2048 Philippines (63-49) 5497373 Singapore (65) 6265 3033 Taiwan (886-3) 461 5461Thailand (66-2) 709 4470Daracem, Daravair, Darex and AEA are registered trademarks of W.
