1 Intended Use2 Declaration of ConformityJames <strong>Leckey</strong> Design Ltd. as manufacturerwith sole responsibility declares that the<strong>Therapy</strong> <strong>Stool</strong> conforms to the requirementsof the 93/42/EEC Guidelines and EN12182Technical aids for disabled persons.General requirements and test methods.3 Terms of WarrantyThe warranty applies only whenthe product is used according to thespecified conditions and for the intendedpurposes, following all manufacturers’recommendations (also see general termsof sales, delivery and payment). A twoyear warranty is provided on all <strong>Leckey</strong>manufactured products and components.5 Product Training Record (Parents,Teachers & Carers)Your <strong>Leckey</strong> product is a prescribedClass 1 Medical Device and as such <strong>Leckey</strong>recommend that parents, teachers andcarers using the equipment should be madeaware of the following sections of this usermanual by a technically competent person:Section 6Safety InformationSection 8Daily useSection 10Daily Product Inspection<strong>Leckey</strong> recommend that a written record ismaintained of all those who have trained inthe correct use of this product.4 Product History RecordYour <strong>Leckey</strong> product is classified as a Class1 Medical device and as such should onlybe prescribed, set up or reissued for useby a technically competent person whohas been trained in the use of this product.<strong>Leckey</strong> recommend that a written record ismaintained to provide details of all setups,reissue inspections and annual inspectionsof this product.


6 Safety information6.1 Always read instructions fullybefore use.6.2 Users should not be left unattendedat any time whilst using <strong>Leckey</strong>equipment.6.3 Only use <strong>Leckey</strong> approvedcomponents with your product.Never modify the product in any way.Failure to follow instructions may putthe user or carer at risk and willinvalidate the warranty on the product.6.4 If in any doubt to the continuedsafe use of your product or if anyparts should fail, please cease usingthe product and contact our customerservices department or local dealer assoon as possible.6.6 The product contains componentswhich could present a choking hazardto small children. Always check thatlocking knobs and bolts within thechild’s reach are tightened and secureat all times.6.7 <strong>Leckey</strong> products comply with firesafety regulations in accordancewith EN12182. However the productcontains plastic components andtherefore should be kept away from alldirect sourcesof heat including naked flames,cigarettes, electric and gas heaters.6.8 Clean the product regularly. Donot use abrasive cleaners. Carry outmaintenance checks on a regularbasis to ensure your product is in goodworking condition.6.5 Never leave the product on asloping surface, greater than 5 degrees.Always remember to lock all thecastors.


How toAssembleCongratulations on purchasing your<strong>Therapy</strong> <strong>Stool</strong>. Your stool will arrive intwo sections:1. Seat and metal base2. LegsTo assemble your product slide the innertubes into the outer tubes of the metalbase frame.7


Daily useParents and carers should be shown howto make frequent adjustments and madeaware of the safety checks in section6 by a technically and clinically competentperson who has been trained in the useof the product. <strong>Leckey</strong> recommend thata written record is maintained of all parentand carers who have been trained in theuse of this product.8


8.1 Height Adjustment 8.2 Castor LockSeat height can be adjusted by raising orlowering the legs. To adjust the height pushthe popper in with your thumb and slide theinner to the required height. Before using thestool please ensure that the seat is leveland all poppers are fully engaged.If the stool has been supplied withcastors the wheels should be lockedwhen using the product. To lock thecastors push down on the pedal ‘a’ until itsnaps into position. To unlock reverse theprocess. To aid stability, always rotate thecastors out so that theyare facing awayfrom the product.a


9 Cleaning & CareInformationHow to MaintainWhen cleaning the product werecommend that you use only warm waterand a non-abrasive detergent. Never useorganic solvents or dry cleaning fluids.Upholstery and fabrics1. The upholstery and fabrics can be cleanedby hand whilst in place. When cleaning werecommend that you use only warm waterand a nonabrasive detergent.2. The best cleaning method is a‘wipe & dry’ technique.3. Staining should be removed as quicklyas possible with absorbent cloth, towels ora sponge. Routine soap and warm watersponging is effective for ordinary soilingand minor spills. Be careful not to overwet the fabric, as this will cause thestaining to spread.Metal and plastic and woodencomponents1. Soap and water or antibacterial spray canbe used for daily cleaning.2. For deep cleaning a low pressure steamcleaner can be used.3. Do not use solvents to clean plasticwooden or metal components.4. Make sure the product is dry before use.5. Check all wooden components regularly toensure there are no cracks or splitters.4 Antiseptic cleaning agents can be usedon more stubborn stains. These may requirea safe solvent such as Isopropyl Alcoholor Mineral Spirit. A half cup of householdbleach to 5 litres of water can also be usedas a useful disinfectant.5 Always ensure the product is drybefore use.


10 Daily ProductInspection11 Annual ProductInspection(Therapists, Parents & Carers)We recommend that daily visual checks ofthe equipment are carried out by therapists,carers or parents to ensure the product issafe for use. The recommend daily checksare detailed below.1. Check all upholstery for signs of wearand tear.2. Check all castors are moving freely andlock securely.If in any doubt to the continued safeuse of your <strong>Leckey</strong> product or if anyparts should fail, please cease usingthe product and contact our customerservices department or your localdealer as soon as possible.(Therapist, Technician, <strong>Leckey</strong> ProductAdvisor, Dealer)<strong>Leckey</strong> recommend that each productshould be subject to a detailed inspection atleast once a year and every time the productis reissued for use. This inspection shouldbe carried out by a technically competentperson who has been trained in the use ofthe product and should include the followingchecks as a minimum requirement.1. Lift the base to check each castorindividually. Make sure they are movingfreely and remove any dirt from the rubberwheels. Check that the brakes lock thewheels securely.3. Visually check the structure of the productpaying attention to weld points on the frameensuring there are no signs of fatigue orcracking around the welds.4. <strong>Leckey</strong> recommend that a written record ismaintained of all annual product inspections.If in any doubt to the continued safeuse of your <strong>Leckey</strong> product or if anyparts should fail, please cease usingthe product and contact our customerservices department or your localdealer as soon as possible.


12 Re-issuing<strong>Leckey</strong> Products13 Product ServicingMost <strong>Leckey</strong> products are assessed andordered to meet the needs of an individualuser. Before reissuing a product werecommend that the therapist prescribingthe product has carried out an equipmentcompatibility check for the new userand has ensured that the product beingre-issued contains no modificationsor special attachments.A detailed technical inspection should becarried on the product prior to re-issuing.This should be carried out by a technicallycompetent person who has been trainedin the use and inspection of the product.Please refer to section 11 for the requiredchecks to be carried out.Servicing of all <strong>Leckey</strong> products shouldonly be carried out by technically competentpersons who have been trained in the use ofthe product.In the UK & ROI please contact the <strong>Leckey</strong>Service Centre on UK 0800 318265 or ROI1800 626020 and our customer servicedepartment will be delighted to assist youwith your servicing requirements.All international service enquiries shouldbe directed to the appropriate <strong>Leckey</strong>distributor who will be delighted to assistyou.
