When existing boilers break down or are older than 10-15 yearsthey should be replaced with an A-rated condensing boiler(although there are some exceptions). A condensing boiler ismore efficient than a traditional combination boiler as it extractsadditional latent heat from water vapour, improving its efficiency.In general all new boilers should be condensing boilers unless inexceptional circumstances an exemption is necessary due tothe difficulty and cost of installation, for example where it islocated far from a drain. This exemption would be determined bya points based assessment.
