FLATWATER/MARATHON (LEVEL 1) COACH COURSEINFORMATION FOR PARTICIPANTSTUESDAY 3 JULY 2012, 9AM-5PM (REGISTRATION AT 8.45AM)THURSDAY 5 JULY 2012, 9AM-5PM<strong>Canoeing</strong> <strong>Victoria</strong> Westerfolds Park, Fitzsimons Lane, TemplestoweMeet at Conference Centre NOT at Boat Shed.Course Administrator: Andrea Boothroyd 03 8846 4120 or 0430 366 442, andrea@canoevic.org.au.Main Presenter: Craig Pickett – Level 2 Flatwater/Marathon Coach & <strong>Victoria</strong>n Sprint Team Coach.Course pre-requisites:1. It is expected that participants have knowledge of aspects of canoe safety and <strong>flatwater</strong> racing. Theparticipant requires the ability to apply simple kayaking skills in craft suitable for <strong>flatwater</strong> racing.No previous <strong>coach</strong>ing experience is required.2. Satisfactory completion of the Australian Sports Commission's Beginner Coaching General Principles<strong>course</strong> is also a pre-requisite. This can be done online (free) athttp://www.ausport.gov.au/participating/<strong>coach</strong>es/education/online<strong>coach</strong>.To bring to the <strong>course</strong>:1. Your own lunch.Morning & afternoon tea will be provided. Please email the <strong>course</strong> coordinator if you have anyspecial dietary requirements.2. A notebook and pen(s).3. Evidence of completion of ASC Beginner Coaching General Principles <strong>course</strong>.4. A completed <strong>Canoeing</strong> Experience form.5. A completed Medical Information form – optional but strongly recommended.6. All your own canoeing gear (including PFD, kayak, paddle) for the practical on-water sessions,appropriate clothing for the weather, a warm, dry change of clothes, and equipment that you wouldnormally have with you when canoeing. Note: kayak will be required on Thursday only.


In addition to attending the <strong>course</strong> you will need to complete the following before you are eligible to applyfor accreditation as a Level 1 Flatwater/Marathon Coach:1. The ASC Beginning Coaching General Principles Course and Assessment(the prerequisite mentioned above).2. Obtain a recognised First Aid Qualification (minimum workplace Level 2).3. Prepare a 12 week <strong>coach</strong>ing plan & maintain a 12 week <strong>coach</strong>ing diary.4. Attend a practical assessment.Further details will be provided at the <strong>course</strong>.Course fees: $250 for <strong>Canoeing</strong> <strong>Victoria</strong> members, $500 for non-members. Course fees include training <strong>course</strong>, <strong>course</strong> manual, assessment, morning & afternoon teas and GST. Payment must reach the <strong>Canoeing</strong> <strong>Victoria</strong> office by close of applications.Please note that four year registration with Australian <strong>Canoeing</strong> as a Flatwater/Marathon (Level 1)Coach is an additional $46.50.
