We seldom expose ourselves to great dangersfor the sake of God, without being rewarded immediately,at least by the comfort of having done ourduty, and of having secured to ourselves, in somemeasure, the possession of Jesus Christ to all eternity." 46. And he bought fine linen, and took himdown, and wrapped him in the linen, and laid himin a sepulchre which was hewn out of a rock, androlleda stone unto the door of the sepulchre."Whoever is dead to sin with Jesus Christ, ought,1. To receive Christ with a pure heart. 2. By theassistance of his ministers to remove himself fromthe place or occasions of sin wherein he was dead.3. As it were to wrap up Christ in his heart, by preservinghim therein with great care. 4>. To makeof his heart a living sepulchre,by the remembranceof Christ's death. 5. To hew this sepulchre out ofa rock, that is, to found and root it in Christ by anunshaken faith. 6. To shut it up from the world,and the occasions of sin and distraction of mind, byretirement and silence. 7. So to order the matter,that Christ himself, by his word and grace, may bethe living stone rolled unto the door of this livingsepulchre." 47. And Mary Magdalene, and Mary the motherof Joses, beheld where he was laid."Let us imitate these holy women, and take carelike them not to lose sight of Christ, but to followhim every where by a persevering faith, and an indefatigablefidelity. In his life, in his death, at thesepulchre, every where he is our God and our Saviour,every where adorable, every where infinitelyworthy to be sought after and followed. That
