And he said unto them, Come ye yourselvesapart into a desert place, and rest awhile : forthere were many coming and going, and they had noleisure so much as to eat. 32. And they departedinto a desert place by ship privately."The zeal of a bishop ought not. to be harsh towardshis fellow-workers ; but he should take care of thosewho labour much in the church, he should be tenderof their health, and procure them rest. Hemust neither tempt the weak by toils which are abovetheir strength, nor urge the strong to exert their veryutmost abilities: but he must consider their wants, andapply himself to the relief of them ;and not give thedevil an opportunity of tempting them, by tiringthem with immoderate and continual labour, or byforgetting their necessities." 33. And the people saw them departing, andmany knew him, and ran afoot thither out of allcities, and outwent them, and came together untohim."Happy those labourers in the church, the sweetsavour of whose life and conversation attracts peopleafter Christ. The intermission of extraordinarylabours is not only advantageous to the ministersthemselves, but it serves likewise to awaken thezeal of the faithful, and to make them desire moreardently that which they no longer enjoy.
