Saudi Telecom to invest$450m in Indonesia operationsState-owned Saudi TelecomComp<strong>an</strong>y (STC), SaudiArabia’s largest phone operator,pl<strong>an</strong>s to invest around $450min its Indonesi<strong>an</strong> operations, asenior executive said.The telco, which in Marchincreased its stake in Indonesia’sAxis, said it will look toincrease its broadb<strong>an</strong>d wirelessnetwork in the Southeast Asi<strong>an</strong>country.“<strong>We</strong> are investing in exp<strong>an</strong>sionin Indonesia this year it will bein the region of $450m,” saidGhass<strong>an</strong> Hasb<strong>an</strong>i, CEO, internationaloperations for SaudiTelecom.The investment will be fordebt fin<strong>an</strong>cing <strong>an</strong>d will be<strong>an</strong>nounced in a few weeks,he said on the sidelines of <strong>an</strong>industry event in Dubai.“<strong>We</strong> <strong>have</strong> investment taggedfor Indonesia because that’s abig growth market <strong>an</strong>d we <strong>have</strong>a lot of growth potential in thatmarket,” Hasb<strong>an</strong>i said.“<strong>We</strong>’re driving the comp<strong>an</strong>ytowards broadb<strong>an</strong>d, we’refocusing on delivering whatothers may find difficult to deliverin the Indonesi<strong>an</strong> marketgiven that there are a lot ofconstraints on b<strong>an</strong>dwidth <strong>an</strong>dcapacity.”STC faces increased competitionfrom Etihad Etisalat (Mobily)<strong>an</strong>d Zain Saudi in its domesticmarket <strong>an</strong>d is eying acquisitionsacross the Middle East, NorthAfrica <strong>an</strong>d Gulf, said Hasb<strong>an</strong>i.“<strong>We</strong>’re looking at other complementarymarkets wheneverthere is opportunities arise.<strong>We</strong>’re open to <strong>an</strong>y opportunitywhether it’s a license or <strong>an</strong>acquisition of <strong>an</strong> existing operation<strong>an</strong>ywhere in the MiddleEast, North Africa <strong>an</strong>d Asiathat complements our currentportfolio.” TSTC launches QuicknetInternet packagesSTC <strong>an</strong>nounced that it has launched Quicknetpackages for mobile Internet servicesThe packages provide customerswith high flexibilityin selecting <strong>an</strong>d tr<strong>an</strong>sferringfrom one package to <strong>an</strong>otherunder the theme "<strong>We</strong> designedthe Internet the way you w<strong>an</strong>tit".
