As such, evenif a market’s absolute level ofcompetition improved, its scorein this relative index will alsodepend on how other markets<strong>developed</strong>. The 2011 indexresults revealed that four countriesr<strong>an</strong>ked higher th<strong>an</strong> theirMay 2010 index r<strong>an</strong>ks, theseare: Algeria, Bahrain, SaudiArabia <strong>an</strong>d Maurit<strong>an</strong>ia. Me<strong>an</strong>while,a total of three countriesr<strong>an</strong>ked lower compared to May2010 index, namely:Jord<strong>an</strong>, Sud<strong>an</strong>,<strong>an</strong>d Yemen.The 2011 index resultsrevealed that fourcountries r<strong>an</strong>ked higherth<strong>an</strong> their May 2010index r<strong>an</strong>ks, these are:Algeria, Bahrain, SaudiArabia <strong>an</strong>d Maurit<strong>an</strong>ia.The remainingtwelve countriesof Egypt, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya,Leb<strong>an</strong>on, Morocco, Om<strong>an</strong>,Palestine, Qatar,Syria, Tunisia <strong>an</strong>dUAE maintainedtheir May 2010r<strong>an</strong>ks.The ArabAdvisorsGroupdevisedtheCellularCompetitionIntensity Index torate <strong>an</strong>d to examinethe intensitylevel of competitionin the ArabWorld’s cellular markets.
