Dr. Ali Singel inauguratesthe first 2011 Al Multaqa Seminar Series under du’sEmiratisation programme ‘Masar’Presided by the award winningmedical veter<strong>an</strong>, Dr.Ali Singel, Head of MedicalServices at Dubai Police <strong>an</strong>dhost of Dubai TV’s ‘Vitamin’programme, du launched thefirst Al Multaqa Seminar seriesfor 2011. Building on thesuccess of the 2010 Al MultaqaSeminar series, the meetingsaim to give Emirati freshgraduates who are enrolled indu’s Masar programme, <strong>an</strong>dthose who <strong>have</strong> already graduatedfrom the course <strong>an</strong>d arecurrently working in du, theopportunty to meet pioneeringEmiratis across varioussectors in the UAE, to <strong>have</strong><strong>an</strong> open discourse <strong>an</strong>d benefitfrom their extensive experience.“M<strong>an</strong>aging Relations in workenvironments <strong>an</strong>d the impacton occupational health” wasthe topic on the agenda duringthe inaugural session of AlMultaqa’s 2011 seminars, heldrecently at du’s head office alAl Salam Tower. The meetingprovided attendees with <strong>an</strong>opportunity to interact withindustry leaders, including du’sDirector of Medical <strong>an</strong>d OccupationalHealth Services, Dr.M<strong>an</strong>soor Anwar, one of thespeakers in attend<strong>an</strong>ce. 2011’sseries of Al Multaqa Seminarscommemorates the fifth yearof du’s Masar programme; furtherreiterating du’s commitment<strong>an</strong>d position as a leadingemployer of choice.Relaying his valuable insightsto the seminar’s attendees, Dr.Ali Singel commended du’s effortsin the scope of Emiratisation<strong>an</strong>d shed light on the import<strong>an</strong>ceof work- life bal<strong>an</strong>cein <strong>an</strong>y professional workplace:“I am delighted to take partin the seminar <strong>an</strong>d share myexperience, which is a testamentto du’s commitment toEmiratisation <strong>an</strong>d true nationalleadership. <strong>We</strong> recognisethe import<strong>an</strong>ce of ensuringa healthy work life bal<strong>an</strong>ce foreach individual employee thatresults in a highly productiveworkforce, <strong>an</strong>d we believe theright environment, guid<strong>an</strong>ce<strong>an</strong>d knowledge are the keyingredients to make this happen.”The seminar provided day-todayexamples <strong>an</strong>d practicaladvice for young professionalson how to become successfulindividuals within theworkplace. In addition, Dr.M<strong>an</strong>soor Anwar delivered apresentation stressing thepsychological <strong>an</strong>d physicalconsequences of work relatedstress. In order to avoid suchconsequences, Dr. Anwar advisesorg<strong>an</strong>isations to clearlydefine employee’s roles <strong>an</strong>d responsibilities,ensure that theworkload is in line with workers’capabilities <strong>an</strong>d resources,<strong>an</strong>d design jobs that provideopportunities for workers touse their skills.Dr. Anwar also highlightedthe import<strong>an</strong>ce of giving staffthe opportunity to participatein decisions affecting theirpositions as well as improvinginternal communicationto reduce the uncertainty offuture employment prospects.In addition, social interactionwithin the workforce shouldalso be encouraged <strong>an</strong>d theorg<strong>an</strong>ization of work schedulesshould be compatible withthe dem<strong>an</strong>ds from outside theworkplace.“Given the hectic pace of lifeof today it is a fact that stressis part of our everyday lives.Org<strong>an</strong>isations need to worktogether with their staff toencourage motivation <strong>an</strong>densure that their workplaceis productive, while relievingsome of the stresses we arefaced with on a daily basis.The benefits of a happy <strong>an</strong>dfruitful workforce is tremendouswith less time lost due tosickness <strong>an</strong>d other psychologicalside effects”, commentedDr. M<strong>an</strong>soor Anwar, Directorof Medical <strong>an</strong>d OccupationalHealth Services at du.Dr. Anwar offered some advicefor employees looking torelieve stress, including takingtime for energizing activities,making friends in <strong>an</strong>d outof the office, taking a walk,booking a vacation to lookforward to <strong>an</strong>d most import<strong>an</strong>tlyto ask for help from acolleague if needed.Entering its 5th year of operation,‘Masar’ is a programmefor UAE nationals at du,<strong>an</strong>d contains a set of sixdevelopment programmes,in alignment with the employeegrade <strong>an</strong>d qualification.The programmes are aimedtowards developing not onlythe technical skills, but alsodevelop soft <strong>an</strong>d businessl<strong>an</strong>guage skills.
