concerned, <strong>ULK</strong> possesses a scientific journal which publishes articles related to Rwandacurrent issues as well as those regarding the sub-region, Africa and the world.In 2011, four issues <strong>of</strong> this scientific journal have been released at <strong>ULK</strong>. Sixteen articles havebeen published in the above mentioned review. Twenty one conferences <strong>of</strong> national, regionaland international interest were held out.<strong>ULK</strong> also edits a quarterly information bulletin known as <strong>ULK</strong>/ Magazine, which has beenissued 3 times in 2011.7.2. Some important events in the academic year 20111. At the beginning <strong>of</strong> the 2011 academic year, the Founder and President <strong>of</strong> <strong>ULK</strong>appointed different senior authorities:- A new Rector, Dr Ezechiel SEKIBIBI;- Two new Academic Vice-Rectors : Dr KAAYA Siraje for <strong>Kigali</strong> Campus and DrCYEZE MUNYAMASOKO Emmanuel for Gisenyi Campus;- New Deans and new Head <strong>of</strong> Departments were elected by their peers.2. From 5 th to 6 th January 2012, <strong>ULK</strong> has organized a seminar for all his academic staff.3. On January 12 th , 2011, based on a transparent recruitment process, 20 academic staffwas recruited by <strong>ULK</strong> to join the existing permanent teaching staff.4. On the 31 st January 2011, <strong>ULK</strong> attended the signing <strong>of</strong> MoU between RIGL (Reseau deCoopération Internuniversitaire des Grands Lacs) and AUF (Agence Universitaire de laFrancophonie).5. On March 16 th , 2011, the Rector <strong>of</strong> <strong>ULK</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficially announced two new programmesafter their approval by the Ministry <strong>of</strong> Education. The curriculum to be taught in the newDepartment <strong>of</strong> Accounting and the new Department <strong>of</strong> Finance were launched. Fromthen, the former Faculty <strong>of</strong> Economic Sciences and Management changed and becamethe Faculty <strong>of</strong> Economics and Business Studies.6. On 6 th April 2011, <strong>ULK</strong> hosted a workshop organized by HEC on the application <strong>of</strong>Modular System in Higher Education Institutions.7. On 28 th April 2011 at <strong>ULK</strong>, the Minister <strong>of</strong> Defense Gen. James KABAREBE gave atalk on Security Building at <strong>ULK</strong>.8. On Friday the 29 th April, 2011, the Commissioner General <strong>of</strong> Police GASANAEmmanuel addressed <strong>ULK</strong> students on “Making the Rwandan Community secure andreassured for sustaining the Country Development”.9. On April 30 th , 2011, <strong>Kigali</strong> <strong>Independent</strong> <strong>University</strong> in partnership with the GenocideSurvivors Students Association (AERG) organised and held the 17 th commemoration <strong>of</strong>the genocide perpetrated against Tutsi in 1994.
