YPS Year Book 2012DAY-2- SATURDAY , 23RD FEBRUARYTHE PRIZE-GIVING FUNCTIONThe ma<strong>in</strong> Prize –giv<strong>in</strong>g function was held onSaturday, 23rd February, at the Harpal Tiwana Centrefor Perform<strong>in</strong>g Arts. The venue had to be changedat the last moment from the school to the HarpalTiwana Centre for Perform<strong>in</strong>g Arts due to <strong>in</strong>clementweather. The Chief Guest for the occasion was HerHighness Maharani Preneet Kaur, M<strong>in</strong>ister of Statefor External affairs, Government of India.The programme began at 11:00 am with the light<strong>in</strong>gof the lamp by the Chief Guest and the Schoolchoir render<strong>in</strong>g the <strong>in</strong>vocation song. Thereafter,the Pr<strong>in</strong>cipal, Mr. SV Kumar, delivered his speechfollowed by school students present<strong>in</strong>g theSenior and the Junior School Annual reports. ThePr<strong>in</strong>cipal <strong>in</strong> his well- crafted speech highlightedthe role of the staff , the students and the parentscommunity, all work<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> tandem for the smoothrunn<strong>in</strong>g of the school . He also enlisted somemajor achievements of the school dur<strong>in</strong>g the year.The Pr<strong>in</strong>cipal also paid a poignant tribute to staffmember, Mr. Rakhal Mohan Sharma, who passedaway early this year.This was followed by the much-awaited prizedistributionceremony and the Chief Guest’sThe Junior School play, ’Mirror, Mirror !’ performed with craftaddress to the audience. Her Highness MaharaniPreneet Kaur, <strong>in</strong> her <strong>in</strong>spir<strong>in</strong>g speech, congratulatedthe prize w<strong>in</strong>ners and exhorted all students to do evenbetter and touch greater heights <strong>in</strong> life. She askedthem to prepare themselves for play<strong>in</strong>g an <strong>in</strong>fluentialand effective role <strong>in</strong> shap<strong>in</strong>g up and improv<strong>in</strong>g thelot of our society and <strong>in</strong>culcat<strong>in</strong>g positive moralvalues. She also stressed upon the importance ofa clean and healthy environment and spoke onthe challenges which some sections of our society,especially women ,are fac<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> present times.A delightful English play, ‘Mirror Mirror’ was putup by Junior school children as a part of the Varietyenterta<strong>in</strong>ment show.A formal <strong>in</strong>troduction with the School Academic staffThe programme rounded off with the s<strong>in</strong>g<strong>in</strong>g of theSchool song and the National Anthem.14
