NEwSThe Scoop For The walking Horse IndustryMISSISSIPPI CHARITY HORSE SHOwdONATES $50,000The southeast United States is recognized as being one of the mostgenerous groups of people in our country. Over the past five yearsas president of our show, I can surely say that Tennessee WalkingHorse owners rank at the top of the list. There are many showsin our industry who give to charities and organizations who havescholarship funds and camps for the youth. One can only imagine the good that tax-deductible charities coulddo for others if they were as diligent with their funds as is theJackson, Mississippi show. We would like to thank all the trainers, owners, and exhibitors for their generosity and for treating theirhorses with great care and respect.Sincerely,Robert TaylorJackson, MississippiFor several years, the Blair Batson Children’s Hospital inJackson, Mississippi has been the charity of choice for theMississippi Charity Horse Show. This year the show which washeld March 29-31 was thrilled to be able to donate $50,000 tothe hospital. This is the 82nd year for this fabulous horse showwhich is the epitome of southern hospitability. Money raisedfor this generous gift was obtained from sponsorships, entries, agreat auction, and the passing of the hat each night. Please see the Letter to the Editor from Robert Taylor, Presidentof the Mississippi Charity Horse ShowLETTER TO THE EDITORI have been president of the Mississippi Charity Horse Show forthe past five years. This show has been in existence for eighty-twoyears and has done much for charities. It is a three-night TennesseeWalking Horse Show held each spring. Our association is allvolunteer and no salaries are paid.In the last three years, we have given the Blair Batson Children’sHospital in Jackson a total of $105,000. Last year, the hospitalchose to dedicate an examining room in their new emergency roomto our show. The last two years donations have been $35,000 and$50,000 respectively. This was done with the USDA present fiveof the six nights and our entries were found to be approximatelyninety-eight percent compliant. In our economic world today, fourpercent unemployment is considered full employment so I wouldsay that ninety-eight percent compliant is excellent, especially whenyou consider it is subjective to one person’s opinion. Based on thenumber of tickets written at routine traffic roadblocks, I would saythat the number of persons driving without license or insurancefalls far below ninety percent. I, for one, am very glad that we donot advocate closing our automotive factories because of this noncompliance. As long as there are children, animals, and humans, unfortunately there will be a certain amount of abuse. Why wouldwe want to punish the ninety-eight percent who work hard to dowhat is right?ARE YOU IN VIOLATION ANd TAKINGA CHANCE OF BEING SUSPENdEd?Please check and make sure you have renewed your w.h.t.a.Trainers license / membershipIf you are entering / showing without your w.h.t.a.
