H ell broke loose in our senior year, thus making our graduation an event not oflocal interest as those in the past, but one of national importance. W e are rising youngAmericans. W e are the young men who w ill stand behind the guns, the workers whow ill win the war of production, the statesmen w ho will create the peace of the future.The theme of this book, therefore, is a patriotic one w hich the history of our timesseems to dictate.But we, the class of ’42, do not look back upon our school life as the patrioticduty into w hich it has developed; for in training us well for our part in the future,it has given us many good times. W e cherish many memories o f our school days. W eremember our long assignments; we hear again the lengthy debates; we recall our runningfor buses to reach school on time; but much more vividly do we remember thepleasures and the friendships of those carefree school days, the happiest years of ourlives. We shall not easily forget those days, the school, our friends. Too, we shallremember w ell the beautiful campus in its fall coat of orange, under its winter blanketof w hite, and in its spring dress of green; but that these and many other memories, sodear to us, may live-Ipng-ynto ^he future, we shall record them , for all, in this, our1942 "West-.O'-'Ranger.”
