Of course that IS0the definitive version, but youcan still while away the oddhour on this offering. It ployswell and is challenging enougheven for the hardened golfersamong you.0SOCCER: This is a real gemof a simulation. Most teamsport simulations tend to be abit dodgy when it comes tocontrolling players, but not this0lithe beauty!There are plenty of optionsto choose from, length of thematch, skill level, two playeroption and team colours.Control is nice and tight0when you have mastered theart of passing and switchingcontrol to another player. Thistake around a couple ofnutes.Gameplay is nice and0000000smooth with some bonecrunching tackles if you shouldfeel the urge.All the elements from thesport are there with throw-ins,goal kicks, comer kicks, penaltyshoot outs and offside&At halftime you get a zippydisplay of girls in ra-ra skirtsdoing their dance routinesbefore the teams trundle backout to start the second half.This is a very polished gamewith good graphics and tunes.Above all it is playable andFUN. Go for it!CLU CLU LAND: I almostswitched this one off after aminute or so, but I re-read theinstructions and sussed thegameplay. I could have kickedmyself because this gameis excellent. Simple concept,simple play, simplefish)graphics and sound — yet Iwas hooked.Clu all is o cross betweenthe arcade golden oldiesLadybird and Pacman. Italso boasts some novelgameplay and designelements. You control a girlcalled Bubbles, who looks likea fish to me, and you have todiscover all the gold barshidden over 20 screens.Each screen has to be solvedwithin a time limit and whilezapping/ramming the standardissue nasfies which room at willover each maze.To expose the gold youhave to guide Bubbles arounda maze and get her to lookaround various pillarsscattered about. As she goesthrough pillar posts sheexposes any gold hiddenbetween them. There arebonus point to be had bypicking up fruit and extra lives.NEWS• The arcade hitSalamander has now beenconverted to the Nintendo. Asyou con see from thescreenshots, the graphics aresuperb. All the arcade featureshave been included with bothvertical and horizontal attackwaves.•Salamander and otherKonami titles should be in theUK from January 1988onwards.• Xevious fans of the worldunite. Apparently there was afollow up to Xevious called(wait for it) Super XeviouslIt has been released in Japanfor the Nintendo and from allaccounts it is a hot item.Not missing out on a goodthing you can now save up allyour hard earned YEN and goout and buy a model kit of thecrafts from the arcade game(shame it's only 1/48th of thereal thing?).• It is quite rare for a UK gameto make it in Japan, butGremlin has scored a successwith Monty on the Run.Apparently there was a bit of aculture difference when it wasconverted to the Japaneseformat and they couldn't relateto moles the way we do.So they changed Montyto a cute bearded criminal onthe run, or maybe they just losta little in the translation ...?• If all you Nintendo ownersare a little disheartened atSego 3-D glosses, then don'tbe! The Nintendo system doeshave glasses (although justwhen will WE see them?) andthey can be used with a gamecalled Highway Star.The game has more than apassing resemblance toOutrun with its rolling hillsand twisty roads (more on thisin the future) in fad in 3-0 itcould well be somethingspecial, watch this spaceThe arcade licenses toRygar and Solomon'sKey were snapped up by USGold for the 8-bit formats. WellNintendo console ownershaven't been forgotten as theyare available on the console,but only in Japan.Both Sega and Nintendothird party UK and EuropeanLicenses come up for grabs in1988. This should mean thatcompanies like Copcom,DataEast, SNK and Konamiwill be negotiating the release ftheir games into our markets.Super Marios Bros is sopopular that in Japan and theUS there are official SuperMorios Bros fan Clubs, with ahandbook (detailing all thefeatures) and tee-shirts of thecharacters.Anyone over here willing todo the same?There are currently 30 titlesdue for release on the Segabefore Christmas with another60 to follow next year.Nintendo has 27 at presentwith the third party stuff tofollow next year,• Come on let's be having allyour favourite tips for consolegames. This month's tip is forKung Fu Master on theNintendo.The usual place to get stuckis on level three, at the end ofthe level you face a large sumowrestler who with very fewblows con wipe out yourenergy. To destroy him waituntil he has just kicked thenstep forward and, whilekneeling, punch rapidly to hisstomach.At the end of level four youare faced with a bombthrowing midget, to destroyhim simply wait until he hasthrown a bomb then step inand punch to the head rapidly,as he dies step back andrepeat the process on hisreincarnation.Has anyone out thereconquered level five?,
