Softwarecompanies have also realisedthat there is a substantial profitto be made from these heroicbeings, and have recentlyproduced a succession ofgames to tempt the youngergeneration into buying theirproduct, So far it has been asuccess, and their games haveshot up to the top of the charts.Now it is Captain America'sturn in the front seat, and provethat he is also capable ofstanding on his own two feet, inhis own computer game andgdelrRI lir• , dr-emerge triumphant. The newgame is entitled, CaptainAmerica in The Doom Tube ofDr. Megalomann (Phew!), Theplot behind the game is asfollows; Dr. Megalomann hasreturned from the grave, andhas told that the president ofthe United States of Americahas until midnight to standdown, and pass his authorityover to the Doctor, otherwise hewill launch a missile, whichcontains a deadly virus, ontothe nation.Captain America's task is topenetrate Dr. Megalomann'sunderground bunker, which issituated in the Mojave desert,disarm the missile and destroythe deadly virus. The missile isknown to be sited on the lowestdeck of the Doom Tube, whichis sunk deep beneath thesurface of the desert.Each deck contains severalrooms or Quadrants, whichemit a high level of psionicenergy. This psionic energy isthe only form of energy which iscapable of penetrating CaptainAmerica's shield, althoughrecent modifications to theshield have given it a certainamount of tolerance. Thefurther down the tube you go,the higher the level of psionicenergy is present, so cautionmust be maintained throughoutthe journey downward.Your shield is one of twoprime defensive weapons thatyou have in your possession,the other is Cybo Grenades. Theshield is virtually indestructibleand is able to slice through theair when thrown. The CyboGrenades have been designedto destroy electronic circuitsand are only effective at closerange.To travel to each deck anelevator has to be used. Onceon the last deck, you mustdiscover which room themissile and virus are kept, oncefound they must be destroyed.Although the graphics andsound are quite attractive, thegame itself is a bit of adisappointment.Playability isn't too bad, thecharacters respond well to eachin every condition that mayoccur,Music and sound effects aregood as are the graphics, theback drops especially. The onlybad point about CaptainAmerica is its lack of lastabilityCaptain America will need alot of considering before youactually buy it.
