t=4CVG0 MACHINE: CEIM 64/SPECTRUM10 SUPPLIER: CASCADE10 PRICE: E9.96/E14.95 (CBM)/EELBS(SPECTRUM)10 VERSION TESTED: CBM 640 REVIEWER: PAULImplosion is from the mind of16 year old Joe Booth, aided bygraphics from John CasselIsand sound by Fred Gray. Itpromises great things to comebut, for me, it lacks that vital, almost indefinable ingredientwhich makes a good game. Tobe honest, I can t quite put myfinger on the reason for it, but itfails to satisfy. The plot is weak. The Earth isunder threat (yes, again) from aperil from deepest space.Nothing new and original aboutthat, is there? It's the same as ahundred other games. Some nasty intelligence hasmanaged to harness the powerof a Vifitite Dwarf star andcreated an artificial planetaround it. That planet is now ona collision course with good oldmother earth. And guess what? You mustsave the world,You do this by flying in andaround the planet's protectinggrid. Your craft can zip in andout of the grid which is veryimpressive. What you have to do is locateand destroy energy cells on thegrid and collect the crystals ofenergy which are released. Toget these you must duck anddive under the grid. But youmust learn which are beneficialto your mission and thosewhich will hinder it.It goes as follows: grey-extralife; green-extra energy;brown-extra points; pink-extratime; blue-saps energy: blacksmartbomb.Eventually the grid will beginto break up and you must findthe portal to gain entry to thenext level. In all there are eightlevels to penetrate.Of course there are various"anti-bodies" zipping in and outof the grid which must bedestroyed before they destroyyou. The game does look nicethough, with its colourful grids,360 degree scrolling action, andthe sound is nice. It's just thatwell, I didn't get a great deal offun out of it.But Joe Booth obviously hasa lot of good ideas whizzingaround his brain. We lookforward to his next one.P. A noblecause. So, I ask myself, howcome he allows this piece ofrubbish Onto the streets? This game, writes Paul, mademe so angry. I found it crude, vile trash designed to cash in onAde Edmondson's book of thesame name. It's even worsethan The Young Ones fromOrpheus— and that's sayingsomething. Come to think of it.that featured good old Ade aswell. I wonder how he feelsabout putting his name to acouple of the worst games inexistance7Okay, I'm getting too angry. So let's go over to Lee for hisviews.Hi, it's Lee here. Enough ofthe outbursts. This is what Ithink:Have you ever fancied being acomplete and utter illegitimateperson? (rye been asked by Timnot to use that certain wordvery often). Have you everwanted to gatecrash a yuppieparty, and throw up oversomeone? Well, I can't say thatit has ever occurred to me, butapparently the gang at Virgin, and in particular, Ade, think youhave, which is why they'vereleased this game. It's basically a cross betweenThe Young Ones fromOrpheus, and Spy Vs Spy fromBeyond. The overall object ofthe game, is to be as vulgar andas nasty as possible, and lightup the phrase COMPLETEBASTARD, (sorry Tim, I didn'tmean to use it!).At the bottom of the screenare four meters. The Weee andDrunkometers speak forthemselves, as does the Fartand the Smellometers, butthese can be revealed bypressing the F key, and lettingout a pretty whiffy poolAt first, the game is quitedifficult to get the hang of, dueto the slightly strange screenlayout that lets you view thesame room from two differentangles, hence the new displayfeature. "Bastavision".As I've said, it's slightlyconfusing at first, but once youget used to it, it worksexceptionally well.Graphics, althoughmonochromatic, are verydetailed and fit well into theoverall structure of the game.(enjoyed it, and although it'sfairly simple it's definitely onefor your software wanted list.Watch out! Paul's comingback to sum up.Paul: I don't understand Leeliking this but that's hisdecision. In my view HTBACB iscrude, tasteless and, evenworse, unfunny.SPECTRUM CBM 64 AMSTRADGRAPHICS 7 7 7111.• SOUND 5 6 6'VALUE 7 7 4P. PLAYABILITY 8 8 4
