Their talks covered caves,calderas, hydrocarbons, hypersthene, and morehydrocarbons. Emma Flannery was awarded besttalk <strong>of</strong> the night with her presentation onhydrocarbon signatures in core slices.It was an extremely enjoyable night, withlots <strong>of</strong> tough questions for the students frommembers <strong>of</strong> the audience, generating livelydiscussion.Newsfrom the Specialist GroupsSGGMP — Rocks, Reef and RainforestMission Beach, Qld, 14–19 July 2013Biennial conference <strong>of</strong> the Specialist Group in Geochemistry,Mineralogy and Petrology (SGGMP)Following the format <strong>of</strong> the successful Kangaroo Island (2009) andMurramarang (2011) SGGMP conferences, this Gordon-style conferenceto be held in tropical North Queensland will combine oral and posterpresentations, field trips and a packed social program. The conference willaddress three main themes:1. Revealing the concealed Earth using novel techniques2. Cooking the crust — high-grade metamorphism and melting3.
