South Carolina Lions Clubs Host
International Students
Each year the South Carolina Lions host 10 to12 international
students for a one month stay. Students arrived in
South Carolina on Saturday, July 17th and were greeted by
host families from all over the state. Each student spent two
weeks with their SC families. On Saturday, July 31st the
students and families gathered at Forest Lake Presbyterian
Church in Columbia and enjoyed a wonderful spaghetti
dinner with all the trimmings provided by the Columbia
Northeast Lions Club. Many students were just meeting
for the first time and this gave them time to get to know
each other.
The second half of their stay in South Carolina will be
a “traveling camp” where the youths will travel across the
state, enjoying the attractions and special offerings of our
beautiful state.
Bob and Jackie Cox of Blythewood hosted Simon Lindinger
from Austria. Simon stayed with The Cox family for
two weeks, enjoying water parks, baseball games, horseback
riding, touring the State House, and many other great
adventures. Bob became interested in the Lion’s Youth Exchange
program during the Summer of 2009 when he vis-
ited the Blythewood Lions Club meeting and helped feed
lunch to the exchange students. After joining the Blythewood
Lions Club, Bob and his wife, Jackie, and son, Joey,
decided to host a student for 2010, as they had enjoyed
hosting exchange students in the past.
The Blythewood Lions Club hosted a pizza lunch for the
“travelers” on Sunday, August 1st. A special thanks to the
Springhill Suites for providing a wonderful room and amenities

has been a surprise for the world travelers. The group had
just spent a half day touring Riverbanks Zoo. After lunch the
group headed for a tour of the South Carolina State Museum.
They will return to Columbia on Friday, August 13th for
“closing” ceremonies, hosted by the Columbia Lions Club
before returning to their home countries on August 14th.
