LLW <strong>Repository</strong> <strong>Ltd</strong>. will continue to develop and enhance the waste segregated service contracts forthe optimum and cost-effective management of metallic, combustible, and VLLW waste streams.5. LLW <strong>Repository</strong> <strong>Ltd</strong>. will introduce improved packaging solutions for the transport, treatment, andlong-term storage and disposal of radioactive wastes.6. LLW <strong>Repository</strong> <strong>Ltd</strong>. will develop and deploy a secure web-based waste tracking and inventorysystem to improve and simplify data management for LLW.7. LLW <strong>Repository</strong> <strong>Ltd</strong>. will provide transport and logistical services to support optimisation of wastetransportation throughout the UK.LLW <strong>Repository</strong> <strong>Ltd</strong>. requests that we support the NDA in development of a plan for the optimum use ofthe LLWR beginning in 2010. Much of LLWR’s current work scope, including tasks and projects inNational LLW <strong>Strategy</strong>, Consignor Support, Environmental Safety Case, and LLWR Site Operations andSite Project Delivery is intent on improving operations and implementing innovations in LLWmanagement.9 SummaryThe Initial <strong>Operational</strong> <strong>Strategy</strong> set out the first strategy for LLWR Operations up until site closure. ThisPreliminary <strong>Operational</strong> <strong>Strategy</strong> demonstrated that the implementation of the strategy had commencedin key areas. This <strong>Developed</strong> <strong>Operational</strong> <strong>Strategy</strong> embeds the strategy into the routine activities of theLLWR, ensuring that it continues to be delivered to the strategic intent.Segregated <strong>Waste</strong> Services are now fully resourced with a skilled Consignor Support Team, which hassignificantly progressed the implementation of the waste metal recycling strategy. Metal recycling serviceis now fully in place and contracts with the supply chain and customers are being exercised to utilise theservice. The work on Combustible and VLLW continues with the strategic intent to embed these servicesusing similar methodology to that used to successfully embed the metal recycling.National LLW <strong>Strategy</strong> has undertaken a number of key tasks to support and underpin the emerging UKNuclear Industry LLW <strong>Strategy</strong>. Many of the initiatives to implement the strategy are now in progress forintegrating LLW management across the NDA estate.Page 58 of 62
