AdmissionsThe DCAD admissions staff is excited to help you through the applicationprocess including <strong>of</strong>fering advice on how to prepare a portfolio. At DCAD,we look at each applicant independently, on the basis <strong>of</strong> an academicrecord, <strong>and</strong> more importantly, on the potential we see in your portfolio.We know that students learn best when they are given caring, personalattention, <strong>and</strong> our admissions counselors start your DCAD experience withone-to-one communication from friendly reminders to on-campus portfolioreviews. At all levels, we get to know each <strong>of</strong> our students personally. Wehope you will take a moment to get to know DCAD.ApplicationTo begin the process, submit a DCAD Application, available online at www.dcad.edu/apply or in the Admissions supplement to this view book. There isa $40 application fee; $80 for international students. For students requestingan application fee waiver, please contact your high school counselor or theDCAD Admissions Office.PortfolioAll applicants are encouraged to visit the <strong>College</strong> in person for a portfolioreview <strong>and</strong> tour <strong>of</strong> the <strong>College</strong>. Applicants who cannot visit in person mayforward a digital portfolio to the DCAD Admissions Office. A portfolio <strong>of</strong>artwork is required for admission to DCAD’s Associate <strong>of</strong> Fine <strong>Art</strong>s DegreeProgram. Applicants must demonstrate their ability in the areas <strong>of</strong> drawing,composition, color <strong>and</strong> design, <strong>and</strong> select their best artwork completedwithin the last two years. The portfolio should include 15 to 20 pieces <strong>of</strong>original artwork <strong>and</strong> at least five pieces drawn from direct observation.The balance <strong>of</strong> the portfolio can include artwork in various media <strong>and</strong> styles.This might include pastel, pen <strong>and</strong> ink, watercolor, oil or acrylic paint,animation, film, <strong>and</strong> black <strong>and</strong> white or color photography. Applicantsare also encouraged to bring their sketchbook. If submitting 3-D worksuch as sculpture or ceramics, please bring photographs instead <strong>of</strong> theactual work to prevent damage. Remember to limit the portfolio to amaximum <strong>of</strong> 20 pieces.
