AdmissionsThe DCAD admissions staff is excited to help you through the applicationprocess including offering advice on how to prepare a portfolio. At DCAD,we look at each applicant independently, on the basis of an academicrecord, and more importantly, on the potential we see in your portfolio.We know that students learn best when they are given caring, personalattention, and our admissions counselors start your DCAD experience withone-to-one communication from friendly reminders to on-campus portfolioreviews. At all levels, we get to know each of our students personally. Wehope you will take a moment to get to know DCAD.ApplicationTo begin the process, submit a DCAD Application, available online at www.dcad.edu/apply or in the Admissions supplement to this view book. There isa $40 application fee; $80 for international students. For students requestingan application fee waiver, please contact your high school counselor or theDCAD Admissions Office.PortfolioAll applicants are encouraged to visit the College in person for a portfolioreview and tour of the College. Applicants who cannot visit in person mayforward a digital portfolio to the DCAD Admissions Office. A portfolio ofartwork is required for admission to DCAD’s Associate of Fine Arts DegreeProgram. Applicants must demonstrate their ability in the areas of drawing,composition, color and design, and select their best artwork completedwithin the last two years. The portfolio should include 15 to 20 pieces oforiginal artwork and at least five pieces drawn from direct observation.The balance of the portfolio can include artwork in various media and styles.This might include pastel, pen and ink, watercolor, oil or acrylic paint,animation, film, and black and white or color photography. Applicantsare also encouraged to bring their sketchbook. If submitting 3-D worksuch as sculpture or ceramics, please bring photographs instead of theactual work to prevent damage. Remember to limit the portfolio to amaximum of 20 pieces.
SlideroomApplicants who are unable to arrange a personal portfolio review at DCAD,may also submit their portfolio by downloading their images to DCAD’sSlideroom account. For a $10 fee, Slideroom allows the applicant to submitup to 20 still images, or a combination of still images and video.High School TranscriptsOfficial High School transcripts or GED must be sent to the DCADAdmissions Office for admission consideration. A final high school transcriptwith graduation date or equivalent is required prior to entering DCAD.SAT or ACT ScoresThe submission of SAT or ACT scores, though not required, is highlyrecommended. Applicants should ensure that all standardized testscores (SAT or ACT), if available, are included with their transcripts.DCAD’s CEEB code is 5161.College TranscriptsStudents who have completed college courses must forward officialtranscripts from all colleges attended, whether or not they think the creditis transferable. Equivalent courses completed with a “C” grade or higherat accredited colleges or universities will be reviewed and evaluated fortransfer credit into the DCAD curriculum.Rolling Admissions DeadlineDCAD offers an Early Action Application deadline of December 1,for students requesting to receive an admission decision prior to January 1of their senior year. To be considered for DCAD’s Merit-Based Scholarships,applications must be completed by March 15 for the fall semester andDecember 1 for the spring semester. Applicants applying after this deadlineare considered through a rolling admission policy up until two weeks priorto the start of a semester. On occasion, DCAD will institute a wait-list ofaccepted students and determine enrollment on a space-available basis.Students who decide to attend DCAD must submit a tuition deposit bythe universal deposit deadline of May 1. Deposits are refundable prior toMay 1. Students requesting housing must also submit a deposit to securea space in DCAD housing. In most cases, admissions decisions aredelivered by mail within a two- to three-week time frame from the dateof application completion.
