International StudentsThe diverse student population and surrounding area is ideal for studentsstudying from abroad. Students from overseas find the small classes andfriendly environment ideal to maximize artistic achievement and success.The rolling admissions policy is also in effect for international applicants,however for Merit-Based Scholarship consideration, all materials must besubmitted by March 15 for the fall semester or December 1 for the springsemester. Non-U.S. citizens living abroad are encouraged to contact DCADto learn more about the admissions process. In addition to the applicationmaterials indicated above, international students must also supply certifiedEnglish translations of all their academic records and TOEFL scores.TOEFLInternational students, whose first language is not English, must submitTOEFL results (Test of English as a Foreign Language). A minimum scoreof 79 IBT is required for acceptance to DCAD. Specify DCAD’s school codeof 5443 for TOEFL score reporting. The TOEFL requirement may be waivedfor students successfully completing college-level English compositionat an accredited U.S. college or university, if a student’s only language ofinstruction has been English for three or more years, or where a student hasa minimum verbal score of 500 on the SAT.Studying EnglishDCAD offers a Conditional Acceptance to students who do not meetthe TOEFL score requirement of 79 IBT. DCAD has partnered with ELSLanguage Centers and accepts successful completion of Level 109 inan English Language Program offered by anyone of more than 32 ELSLanguage Centers located throughout the USA. Scholarships and Financial AidDCAD Merit-Based ScholarshipMerit-Based Scholarships of up to $8,000 per year are awarded based on anapplicant’s academic and artistic skill at the time of acceptance to the College.The deadline to be considered for a Merit-Based Scholarship is March15 for the fall semester and December 1 for the spring semester. Scholarshipsare renewable for a student’s second year as long as he or she maintainsfull-time status and satisfactory academic standing.DCAD Art Award ScholarshipEach year, one $5,000 tuition scholarship, renewable for the second year ofstudy is available to Delaware high school seniors who intend to enroll atDCAD. Delaware residents enrolled as a high school senior or home-schoolequivalent with at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale are eligible toapply. The deadline to apply is April 1 and applicants may request an applicationfrom the DCAD Admissions Office or from their high school art teacherafter January 1 of their senior year.James P. Lecky Presidential ScholarshipThe James P. Lecky Presidential Scholarship is awarded to an accepted fulltimestudent who demonstrates outstanding academic and artistic ability,and financial need. The scholarship is automatically renewed for a secondyear of full-time enrollment as long as the student maintains a minimumcumulative GPA of 2.7 and demonstrates continued financial need.High School Art Exhibition ScholarshipEach spring, the DCAD Admissions Office hosts an annual exhibition ofjuried high school student artwork selected by each student’s art teachers.Pieces submitted by high school seniors are reviewed and the scholarshiprecipients receive a partial DCAD tuition scholarship.Financial AidStudents and their families may be eligible for a wide range of financial aidopportunities including school-supported scholarships and grants, governmentand private grants, and a variety of public and private loan programs.DCAD offers financial aid in the form of college need-based grants, federaland state grants, loans and work study. Students must submit the Free Applicationfor Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be considered for various formsof federal financial aid. The FAFSA determines the amount and what type offinancial aid a student may receive. DCAD encourages students to submitthe FAFSA as soon as possible after January 1.
