Aaron Marcus, The Past 100 Years of the Future, Page 85
Total Recall, 1990, based on a novel by Philip K. Dick, and directed by Paul Verhoven,
presents many innovative, memorable, scenes of HCI content. One of the most exotic,
disgusting scenes features actor Arnold Schwarzenegger removing a tracking device
from his nose. Other scenes show video-wall displays, wall-sized x-ray displays, threedimensional
virtual avatars, body suits, and animatronic taxi drivers. One inadvertently
comical anachronistic HCI scene shows a hotel employee looking at a conventional CRT
display of a hotel service computer from the 1970s although the movie is set far in the
future.
