Itseffect in that computation is identical to that <strong>of</strong>an F.• GRADE CHANGES TO INCOMPLETEA grade may be changed to an I grade only with<strong>the</strong> approval <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> dean <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> student’scollege or <strong>the</strong> dean <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Graduate Division, asappropriate, and successful completion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>above petitioning process.Withdrawal gradeFor undergraduate students, <strong>the</strong> W grade willbe assigned when a student withdraws from <strong>the</strong><strong>University</strong> (or receives approval to drop a courseby exception) after <strong>the</strong> deadline for droppngcourses established by <strong>the</strong> Executive Committee<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> college or school in which <strong>the</strong> studentis enrolled. The W grade will be assigned foreach course affected. Courses in which a W hasbeen entered on <strong>the</strong> student’s transcript will bedisregarded in determining a student’s gradepoint-averageand will not be considered ascourses attempted in assessing <strong>the</strong> student’sGPA for graduation.Grade changesIf a student believes an incorrect grade hasbeen reported, <strong>the</strong> instructor should beconsulted.All grades except I and IP are final whensubmitted to <strong>the</strong> <strong>Office</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Registrar</strong> by <strong>the</strong>instructor in <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficial Course Report subject to<strong>the</strong> provisions given in <strong>the</strong> current UCSBGeneral Catalog. Thereafter, an instructor mayreport a correction <strong>of</strong> a grade only in <strong>the</strong> case <strong>of</strong>clerical or procedural error. An instructor alsomay change a grade in <strong>the</strong> quarter followingthat in which <strong>the</strong> original grade was received if<strong>the</strong> basis for <strong>the</strong> change is found in workpreviously accomplished in <strong>the</strong> course as a part<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> student’s regular participation in classactivity. However, such changes must not createinequities to o<strong>the</strong>rs whose grades remainunaltered. No final grade (except I) may berevised by re-examination, and no letter grademay be changed to or from P/NP or S/U.A record <strong>of</strong> your academic work is preparedand retained permanently by <strong>the</strong> <strong>Office</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><strong>Registrar</strong>. Secondary records such as petitions,transcripts from o<strong>the</strong>r institutions, and programchanges are destroyed within two years <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>last date <strong>of</strong> activity for a student.Un<strong>of</strong>ficial transcriptsUn<strong>of</strong>ficial transcripts may be ordered on GOLD.Un<strong>of</strong>ficial transcripts ordered prior to 11 p.m.will be available for pick-up at <strong>the</strong> <strong>Office</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><strong>Registrar</strong> after 1 p.m. <strong>the</strong> next business day.Un<strong>of</strong>ficial transcripts are only held for threedays. Students must present a photo ID whenpicking up <strong>the</strong>ir un<strong>of</strong>ficial transcript.Official transcriptsOfficial transcripts are printed on security paperand display <strong>the</strong> entire academic history <strong>of</strong> astudent at UCSB. They may be ordered from <strong>the</strong><strong>Office</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Registrar</strong> for a charge <strong>of</strong> $6 percopy. Transcripts are sent first class U.S. mail.Current students or those with an active BARCaccount may also order Official Transcripts byaccessing <strong>the</strong> GOLD system at: http://gnet.ucsb.edu/gold. The $6 fee will be billed to<strong>the</strong> student’s BARC account when orderedthrough GOLD. Expedited delivery is not anoption when ordering through GOLD. Transcriptswill not be released if <strong>the</strong> student hasoutstanding financial obligations to <strong>the</strong>university.All written requests must be accompanied by<strong>the</strong> appropriate payment and <strong>the</strong> student’ssignature authorizing <strong>the</strong> request.
