Unsoldtextbooks will be returned to publishersbeginning October 20.<strong>University</strong> PoliceThe <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> California Santa Barbara Policeis committed to fulfilling its mission to provide asafe, peaceful, and secure environment <strong>of</strong>persons and facilities on <strong>the</strong> campus. Acommunity oriented Police Departmentaccomplishes <strong>the</strong>se goals through educationand enforcement.This pro-active department employs 26 swornfull-time <strong>of</strong>ficers. The UC Police <strong>Office</strong>rs, whohave statewide jurisdiction, maintain 24 houruniformed patrol on foot, bicycle, and motorvehicles. <strong>Office</strong>rs engage in crime prevention,handling calls for service, investigating crimes,and taking appropriate action. Paramedics andemergency medical technicians provide lifesupportservices 24 hours a day. Both <strong>the</strong> policeand paramedics are dispatched through <strong>the</strong>Communications Unit located in <strong>the</strong> PublicSafety Building. Communications also handlesall campus 911 calls.Assisting <strong>the</strong> Police Department is <strong>the</strong>Community Service Organization which employs50 students. The students act as <strong>the</strong> eyes andears for <strong>the</strong> Police Department. They alsoregister bikes, collect lost and found, andprovide escorts for students.The Police Department works with <strong>the</strong>Women’s Center Rape Prevention EducationProgram. Due to <strong>the</strong> Police Department’sinnovative and pro-active stance, <strong>the</strong> 1994 reportfrom Crime at College lists UC Santa Barbara asone <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> safest university campuses.Visitor CenterThe Visitor Center is located on <strong>the</strong> ground floor<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Student Affairs Administrative ServicesBuilding (SAASB), Room 1102A. A component <strong>of</strong><strong>the</strong> <strong>Office</strong> <strong>of</strong> Admissions and Outreach Services,<strong>the</strong> Visitor Center <strong>of</strong>fers one-hour FreshmanAdmissions presentations on weekdays at 11a.m., and hour-long walking tours at 12 noonand 2 p.m., excluding holidays. SaturdayAdmission presentations at 11 a.m. andSaturday tours at noon are only <strong>of</strong>fered inOctober and April.
