The 2 nd run of HO-scale C420s includes one additional production “phase”. The firstgroup of C420s built for the Seaboard Air Line (SAL) featured a phase 1 sill with a phase2 hood. This is referred to as a “phase 2a” C420 in Atlas literature and the appropriatebody/sill combination will be used on SAL models.Dynamic brakes were a relatively visible option on all ALCO Century-series locomotives. Anon-dynamic brake equipped C420 includes only one screened opening along to center/top of the long hood (below, Don McGowan photo).
