REVIEWsome paid, and five out of six werehorrible. Andromedia was the onlyone that worked as advertised, andit was free! It isn’t perfect though.Rendering a six-minute HD video tooknearly 45 minutes, but it does work.It has all of the basic editing toolsyou’d expect and some you mightnot. It edits and exports 720p HDvideo; it can super titles you createover either a color background ora picture; it has several choices ofscene transitions, and it even allowsimporting and editing of audio, ifyou want to add music or soundeffects. It’s also easy to use. Becauseit is a free app, there are small adsat the bottom of the GUI, but Ididn’t find them to be annoying orintrusive. The screenshots in Figures1–7 show the editing process.Speaking of screenshots, on theNexus 7, you can make them byholding down the power button andthe volume button at the same timefor about two seconds, which isfollowed by a nondescript sound.Another very useful app is calledES File Explorer. This is the best wayto handle the storage limitations onthe Nexus 7, and it doesn’t involve acloud. This app lets you transfer toany sharable device with a hard driveon your home network. For me, thatwould be my 2TB network hard drive.Figure 8. Choosing a Folder Using the ESFile ExplorerBasic photo editing is achievedby choosing a photo in the galleryand touching the choice icon in theupper-right corner. If you need to print, any of theAndroid apps for the major printermanufacturers will work, but it needsto be a network printer. Epson Iprintfor Android worked for me and myEpson Workforce 630. It also will printWWW.LINUXJOURNAL.COM / DECEMBER 2012 / 65
