<strong>Mount</strong>ain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care was awarded a donation <strong>of</strong> 300,000 by the<br />
North Carolina State Employee Credit Union Foundation. This funding will go towards a<br />
capital campaign to pay for the building and operation <strong>of</strong> its new hospice home in Dobson.<br />
40 high school graduates were awarded Shelton Family Character Scholarships which is<br />
a $1,000 a year renewable scholarship by Ed and Charlie Shelton to enable local high<br />
school graduates the means to pursue higher education.<br />
Northern Hospital <strong>of</strong> Surry County awarded scholarships valued at $9500 to area high<br />
school graduates to pursue their interest in medicine, nursing and other fields <strong>of</strong> endeavor.<br />

PART - Area transit agencies to get stimulus money<br />
The Piedmont Authority for Regional Transportation will get $790,000 to build two parkand–ride<br />
lots in <strong>Mount</strong> <strong>Airy</strong> and Yadkinville and to pay for the engineering and design <strong>of</strong> a<br />
third lot in Randleman.<br />
PART has bought two acres in <strong>Mount</strong> <strong>Airy</strong> for the lot there, which will have 180 spaces,<br />
said Scott Rhine, the agency's program manager. PART has one acre for Yadkinville's lot,<br />
which will have 99 spaces. The agency will submit the projects for bids.<br />
