BOMBINDICATORCONTROLKNOBthe respective selector switch on the bombardier'scontrol panel.d. A bomb arming solenoid in each external rackis controlled by a switch on the bombardier's panel.A red indicator lamp beside the switch is on when thebombs are armed.NOTESome B-17F airplanes not equipped for externalracks have only two rack selector switchesand no bomb arming switch on the bombardier'spanel. A few airplanes have no rack selectorswitches on the bombardier's panel but havea three-position switch in the bomb bay to turnoff either internal rack.~. The bomb door control handle is at the left ofthe bombardier, forward of the control panel, andoperates a double-throw toggle switch controlling thesolenoid switches for the bomb door retracting motor.A lug on the side of the handle is located so that whenthe door handle is in the "CLOSED" position, thebomb release lever cannot be moved out of the "LOCK"position.CAUTIONIf bombs are carried above the 2000-poundbomb, they MUST NOT be released until theD-6 shackle and adapter have been removed. This definitely requires "SELECTIVE" releasecontrol for the 2000-pound bomb.52
