This is accomplished by keying theaircraft’s microphone in a particular sequenceat a designated frequency. The controlleractivates the lighting system upon receivinga series of pulses of radio frequency energywithin a five second period. At the third pulsethe first relay closes, at the fifth pulse thesecond relay closes, at the seventh pulse thethird relay closes. At any time the pilot has theoption of sending three, five, or seven pulses tocommand the intensity level to his desires. Thesystem will remain at the intensity of the lastcommand received. The solid state timer willcontinue to operate for 15 minutes after whichit will cause the system to revert to the “off”condition.
