• hosting a family math event, emphasizing math activities that can be enjoyedby the whole family;• providing and promoting the Ministry of Education’s publication Helping YourChild Learn Math: A Parent’s Guide, 2003;• involving libraries and bookstores by asking them to promote literature that containsmathematical content for young children;• developing and promoting an appreciation of the mathematical heritages andcultural values of all members of the school community;• communicating with parents of English-language learners (through interpreters, ifavailable);• responding promptly and constructively to parents’ concerns, either by telephoneor by e-mail;• inviting parents’ feedback on the teacher’s observations, assessments, and documentationof their child’s mathematical understanding;• promoting a philosophy of teamwork with peers, administrators, and family andcommunity members;• engaging parents in helping, on a volunteer basis, with math-related activities atthe school, and drawing on any special talents and knowledge they might havethat could benefit student learning.
