JULIET DAVISJuliet Davis is Cities Programme Fellow, and a chartered member of theRIBA (2005). She was previously a Senior Lecturer in Architecture andInteriors at the Canterbury School of Architecture (2005-07), ran the firstyear of the BA (Hons) Architecture course at Cambridge University (2004-05) and was a Visiting Lecturer at Cambridge (2006-1010). Between 1999and 2005 she worked as Project Architect with Eric Parry Architects. Hercurrent research at the Cities Programme investigates the intersectionsbetween political and spatial visions in the development of proposals for anurban regeneration Legacy to the 2012 Olympic Games in east London.Recent publications focus on topics and processes of urban regeneration,the construction of sustainable communities and the design of urbancatalysts.MIKE DUFFMike Duff (BSc, MSc (City Design & Social Science), MA (Sustainability &Design)) is an Associate working on Urban & Regional Planning and StrategicEnvironment projects for Happold Consulting International. He holds aBachelor’s degree in Social Psychology & Philosophy, and two Mastersdegrees in City Design & Social Science, and Sustainability and Architectural& Urban Design. He has worked on projects at all scales, from public realmstrategies and design codes to masterplans, strategic advice and city andregional structure plans. With Happold Consulting Mike’s work has includeddeveloping a Strategic Plan for the growth of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, thedesign of the urban blocks for an environmentally-sustainable universitycampus in Jordan, the environmental and heritage conservation of a seriesof historic mud brick towns in Addiriyah, Saudi Arabia, a masterplan for twonew eco-cities (USA, and Middle East), and a variety of project SustainabilityAssessments and Frameworks. His work for Happold Consulting has almostalways involved the development and specification of computational toolsfor planning, masterplanning and sustainability. He is currently working onstrategic planning projects in Detroit - USA, Maputo - Mozambique, andguest lectures at Harvard University, University College London, and theLondon School of Economics.CLIVE DUTTONClive Dutton OBE is Executive Director for Regeneration, Planning andProperty, London Borough of Newham; host Borough to the 2012 Olympicand Paralympic Games. The development platform in this part of EastLondon is a third of the size of Manhattan Island and is the Mayor ofLondon’s regeneration priority for the foreseeable future. Prior to this hewas Director of Planning and Regeneration at Birmingham City Council from2005 to 2009 and directed a dramatic regeneration programme within thecity, unprecedented in its recent history, and before this he was Director ofRegeneration at JJ Gallagher Limited and Head of Regeneration for fourlocal authorities. He has been Chief Executive of Tipton City Challenge andGeneral Manager of the Black Country Urban Development Corporation. Inaddition he worked for Government on the Urban Task Force, Urban WhitePaper and the Oldham Independent Review, following the civil disturbancesin 2001, and was Chairman of the Deputy Prime Minister’s AnnualSustainable Communities Award and a non-executive director of the BritishUrban Regeneration Association for three years in the early 1990s. He hasbeen a member of the BURA Best Practice Committee since it inception,and was awarded the OBE in 1998 for services to urban regeneration.
