DAN PHILLIPSDan Phillips (FRSA, MSt (cantab) BEng (acgi)) is group director ofsustainability at Buro Happold. He trained as a mechanical engineer atImperial College, is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and has a Mastersdegree in interdisciplinary design for the built environment from CambridgeUniversity. He started his career at Ford Motor Company followed by 8years at Arup's in London and Africa. His professional passion is innovationand sustainable development and he believes that we will achieve thisthrough constantly improving the relationship people have with our builtand natural environment, the systems and tools we use to operate ourbuildings, cities and organisations and the quality of the built environmentitself. Previously he ran a design and innovation company called the SEA,and was also the creative director at Battle McCarthy Engineers. He is acreative communicator and thinker having lectured in environmental designand published a book on Eco-friendly homes for Harper Collins.ADAM POOLEAdam Poole works in the strategy team at Buro Happold. He trained as anAfricanist and used to run an African affairs consultancy but got deflectedinto the built environment by a coup. Before joining Buro Happold heworked for 10 years as an ideas consultant for universities, designers,contractors, politicians and research organisations.PROFESSOR JOHN RATCLIFFEJohn Ratcliffe is professor of Strategic Foresight at The Henley BusinessSchool, University of Reading and Visiting Professor of Built EnvironmentFutures at the University Salford. For fifteen years or more, ProfessorRatcliffe has acquired a particular expertise and reputation in the FuturesStudies field, with special reference to real estate strategy and thesustainable development of city regions. In 2003 he established The FuturesAcademy, which has acted as a research and consultancy practice tocountries, cities, corporations, colleges and communities around the world.From 2005 to 2007 he was the elected Secretary-General of the WorldFutures Studies Federation, the global body for academic futurists, and he iscurrently Vice President of the European Futurists Conference, the regionalorganisation for professional futurists. He is also a Consultant to ShapingTomorrow, and an Associate of the futures consultancy Outsights in the UK.LAWRIE ROBERTSONLawrie Robertson (MA (Hons) Dip Arch ARB RIBA) is a strategic planner,urban designer and architect with experience in city and building design,planning and international humanitarian development. He joined HappoldConsulting in 2006 and is now Associate Director, leading onmultidisciplinary strategic planning, urban development and infrastructureprojects. He trained at Cambridge University Architecture Department andbuilt up experience in both architecture and urban design with practices inLondon, Prague and Budapest. Recently, he has led the strategic plan forJeddah, Saudi Arabia as well as the Masterplan for Addiriyah, Saudi Arabia'srecent addition to the UNESCO World Heritage List.
