MICHAEL JOHNSONMichael Johnson runs Johnson Banks, which has long had an interest inbranding the four ‘C’s – cities, countries, culture and charities. He’s workedon many projects for the British Government, art centres in Philadelphiaand Paris, a space observatory in Japan and bilingual typeface in China. InLondon, he’s just done the Science Museum and his first airline, VirginAtlantic. Johnson Banks branded London’s inward investment arm ‘ThinkLondon’, and writes and lectures worldwide on identity issues. He has wonmost of the design world’s most prestigious awards, has written one book,Problem Solved, and is working on two others. In spare moments he editsthe design blog, Thought for the Week.PADRAIC KELLYPadraic Kelly (BA, BAI, MSc, FICE, FIStructE, FRSA) is a Chartered Engineer,Fellow of the Institution of Structural Engineers, Fellow of the Institution ofCivil Engineers and a Fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts, holdingBachelor and Masters degrees in Engineering from Trinity College, Dublin.He joined the parent company Buro Happold in 1978, became a Director in1992 responsible for Middle East and Asia, and returned to the UK tobecome Managing Director in 1996. He held this key role until 2005 afterwhich he became the practice’s International Director. He has beenPresident of Europengineers since May 2006. He established HappoldConsulting in 2005. Padraic has played leading roles in large scale planningand infrastructure, transport and environment projects. He lectures onplanning at Harvard University and has co-founded ‘The Working Group onSustainable Cities’ there.DAN KINKEADDan Kinkead is an architect and associate at Hamilton Anderson Associates(HAA), a multidisciplinary design firm based in Detroit. Dan works onseveral local, regional and international design projects, and is the planningand design leader of the Detroit Works Project planning team. Beforejoining Hamilton Anderson, Dan worked in Skidmore Owings & Merrill’sNew York design office working on international projects and collaboratingwith the Renzo Piano Building Workshop. Dan received his Bachelor ofArchitecture from the University of Kentucky and Master of Architecture inUrban Design from Harvard University. Dan is also a part-time adjunctinstructor in Architectural History and Theory in Wayne State University’sUrban Studies program. He works and lives in Detroit.MATT LEACHMatt Leach is associate director of ResPublica and Head of Health, Housingand Environment Unit. Prior to joining ResPublica, Matt has held a range ofsenior policy and leadership roles at the interface between state and notfor-profitsectors, including as Chief Executive of Capacitybuilders andDirector of Policy and Communications at the Housing Corporation, andplayed a leading role in the establishment of the London Thames GatewayDevelopment Corporation and the Greater London Authority. Matt has astrong interest in practical approaches to building the strength ofcommunities at a local level, and is a Board member of the Accord Groupand of Caldmore Area Housing Association.
