(51.4 x 34.9 cm)Gift of the artistEstimated price: $2,500-$3,500Liliana Porter is an artist who since the sixties has been experimenting with conceptual art, photography andvideo, as well as the mediums of painting, drawing and collage. Her work plays with our understanding oftime and reality through the use of inanimate objects and narratives that are activated by the gaze of theviewer and in constructed vignettes of situations that can be interpreted politically or philosophically.Mickey/Novia, Lulu, Canguro/Mono, and Búho/León, 2009, are part of the series Disguise / Disfraz, whichinclude 12 photographs of figurines with masks and disguises, fulfilling their desire to become someone orsomething else. In this series, Porter resorts to her use of found objects that she obtains in flea markets orantique stores, creating poetic and eerie settings with unusual characters and dialogues that reflect thedistress and banality of the human condition.Porter studied at Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes in Buenos Aires, Argentina and later at UniversidadIberoamericana in Mexico City. She has been the recipient of various awards and fellowships including aGuggenheim Fellowship in 1980. Selected exhibitions include Pulse Play, El Museo del Barrio, New York,2010; Liliana Porter: Línea de Tiempo / Timeline, Museo Tamayo, Mexico City, 2009; Here is Every: FourDecades of Contemporary Art, MoMA, New York, 2008; To See Red, Galería Espacio Minimo, Madrid, Spain,2007; and Impresiones Argentinas, Círculo de Bellas Artes, Madrid, 2005.
