ACKNOWLEDGEMENTSThe Museum of Latin American Art is proud to announce MOLAA’s 1st Exhibition Fund Auction, The Wave,a new project led by our curatorial department. The Wave will be held within the context of our 2012 Gala,Milonga, on May 12. The Wave will support MOLAA’s Exhibition Fund, which will make possible the realizationof important exhibitions such as Play with Me in the Summer of 2012; Sociales: Débora Arango ArrivesToday; Lola Alvárez Bravo: The Photography of an Era in the Fall of 2012; and Abstraction in Action in theSpring of 2013.MOLAA is the only museum dedicated to modern and contemporary Latin American art in the United States.Our mission is to promote the 20th and 21st century art of the region through the production of importanthistorical and contemporary exhibitions that expand the understanding of Latin America and foster cross-culturaldialogue. For this reason, we have developed a new concept for The Wave, presenting an auction of work bysome of the most challenging and significant artists from Latin America.The Wave includes 27 artworks; two by the important modern artists Leo Matiz and Esteban Lisa, and twenty-oneby some of the most engaging contemporary artists from Latin America today: Atelier Morales, Johanna Calle,Eugenia Calvo, Aníbal Catalán, Emilio Chapela Pérez, Marta Chilindrón, Gabriel de la Mora, Danilo Dueñas,Darío Escobar, Magdalena Fernández, Jaime Gili, Thomas Glassford, Federico Herrero, Pepe López, MarcoMaggi, Priscilla Monge, Rubén Ortiz-Torres, Liliana Porter, Luis Roldán, Esterio Segura and Cinthya Soto.Our goal is to include artists whose relationship with MOLAA has been established through recent,current and planned future exhibitions.Works by the artists in The Wave 2012 are represented in the following exhibitions: Johanna Calle, EmilioChapela, Marta Chilindrón, Gabriel de la Mora and Marco Maggi are some of our Project Room artists;works by Atelier Morales, Darío Escobar, Leo Matiz, Esterio Segura, and Cinthya Soto appeared in thePermanent Collection displays; Priscilla Monge and Eugenia Calvo participated in the video exhibitionUnresolved Circumstances; Liliana Porter’s work was included in Changing the Focus; Federico Herrero andRubén Ortiz-Torres will participate in Play with Me; artists such as Darío Escobar, Jaime Gili, Thomas Glassford,Pepe López, Luis Roldán, Aníbal Catalán and Danilo Dueñas will be included in Abstraction in Action;and solo-exhibitions of Magdalena Fernández and Esteban Lisa are currently on view at MOLAA.The works in The Wave have been generously donated by the artists, their galleries and representatives, andwe would like to thank them immensely for their generosity.
