LOT #26LUIS ROLDÁN (Colombia, b. 1955)Sueños / Dreams, 2005Graphite and bed sheet threads on paper14 x 16 1/2 in. (35.6 x 41.9 cm)Gift of the artist, courtesy of Henrique Faria Fine Art, New Yorkand Galería Casas Riegner, BogotáEstimated price: $6,000-$8,000Luis Roldán works with painting, drawing, mixed media, video and sculpture. His work is characterized bythe use and deconstruction of scrap materials from his workshop and the street; and methodological andsystematic repetition as a strategy for documentation of intimate moments, personal and collective. The work Sueños, 2005 consists of a drawing with graphite and thread, emphatically specified as “bedsheet threads,” which form lines and shapes, narrating a story that seems to be fleeing away with the windor the motion of time. The idea of a bed sheet as collector of dreams invites the viewer to reflect onmemories or past experiences that may be triggered by these ethereal outlines in the drawing.Roldán studied architecture in the Javeriana University of Bogotá in 1974, continued with modern engravingin 1979 in Atelier 17 in Paris, and later studied art history at the L’Ecole du Louvre in Paris in 1981.Selected exhibitions include: Transparencias, Museo de Arte Moderno de Medellín, Colombia, 2011; OtrasVoces, Faria and Fábregas Galería, Caracas, 2010; Proyectos Especiales, ARCO, Madrid; Sicardi Gallery,Houston, 2008; Marcas Registradas, Museo Nacional de Colombia, Bogotá, 2006; and Márgenes Paralelas,Galería Casas Riegner, Bogotá, 2005. Roldán works and lives in New York and Bogotá.28
