Babel Fish. Using these tools from the internet,Chapela deconstructs language until it becomes contradictory hoping to construct new meanings orinterpretation.Capitalism is... Communism is..., 2009, is a diptych from the series Ask Google, which was created by usingthe search engine’s suggestions, in order to show different stereotypes and prejudice on concepts (such asCapitalism or Communism) or even nationalities, reflected by the most popular searches by the public inGoogle. Chapela comments on his use of Google in this series: “I feel that this tool works as a very effectiveinsight to the web's collective unconsciousness.”Chapela Pérez earned a BA in mathematics from the Facultad de Ciencias, UNAM in Mexico in 1998, completeda graduate degree in photography and news media from the Centro de la Imagen, in Mexico in 2001, andlater studied communication sciences at the Universidad Iberoamericana of Mexico in 2002.
