FOUR COUNTRIES TOUR…
AUSTRIA, GERMANY, SWITZERLAND & LICHTENSTEIN
8 DAY TOUR
Departure: Saturday 10th – Saturday 17th August
The Austrian Tyrol is a picture book region of outstanding beauty, characterised by
mighty peaks, crystal clear lakes and picturesque towns. Although we are based
in Austria, we will be visiting three other countries during the tour, each with their
own history and wonderful scenery.
A family run, traditional 4* hotel ideally located in the centre of St. Anton. All rooms
are ensuite and comfortably furnished with TV and hairdryer and most have a
balcony. There is a lift to all floors and the stylish and traditional restaurant serves
delicious home cooked food. The large bar and lounge is comfortably furnished
and offers a warm atmosphere and leisure facilities include an indoor swimming
pool and whirlpool.
Itinerary
Arlberg Hotel
St. Anton
SATURDAY – After an early departure, we leave the West Country and journey
east, with a comfort stop en route, to Dover for the ferry crossing to Calais. We
then continue our journey to our overnight accommodation in Liege.
SUNDAY – After breakfast, we continue our journey into Austria, with comfort
stops en route, to our hotel in St Anton, arriving in time for a welcome drink &
evening dinner
MONDAY – The whole day is free for you to spend at leisure in St Anton. A
wonderful summer resort, with a pedestrianised centre and a wealth of shops and
cafés to explore, and sample the local cuisine. You may like to visit the excellent
ski museum showing the history of alpine skiing, or take a cable car ride into the
mountains and meadows where you can spot some of the famous Tyrolean cows,
and enjoy the stunning views of the surrounding mountains, which are simply
breathtaking. There is also the opportunity to make use of the hotel leisure
facilities…or simply relax and enjoy the scenery.
TUESDAY – This morning we make our way east to Innsbruck, a charming city
and the region’s capital. The Golden Roof in the old town is the most important
symbol of the city. It was built by Archduke Friedrich IV for his emperor Maximilian
I who was so delighted with his gift that he sat in luxury under it all day, and viewed
the lively activity under the square below. You may also like to take a ride on the
Hungerburgbahn lift, which ascends the Nordketten Mountain range or take a tour
TELEPHONE 01398 341160
of the Grassmayr Bell Foundry and the Ambras Castle, as well as browse the
shops and enjoy a leisurely lunch.
WEDNESDAY – A full day today as we visit 3 countries in the same day. We head
westwards to Lichtenstein, the smallest country in Europe, with a stop for coffee in
the capital Vaduz. We then cross the border into Switzerland to the town of
Landquart to board a train on the famous scenic Rhaetic Railway. The oldest part
of the railway dates from the 19th Century, and it criss crosses the Landquart
River, passing the upmarket resort of Klosters, where the Royal family take their
winter ski holidays, through tunnels and coniferous forests to Davos. With free
time to spend in the picturesque town with its stunning views and vast array of
shops and restaurants, we return to Austria and our hotel for a traditional farmers
buffet evening dinner.
THURSDAY – Join us today as we travel to Lake Constance, one of the largest
lakes in Central Europe and bordered by Austria, Germany and Switzerland. The
lake is a centre for water sports, while its shores are home to swathes of vineyards
and intriguing towns. The area is rich in castles, baroque churches, exquisite town
squares and curious museums, while the hinterland is dotted with pretty villages.
Our first stop in at Bregenz, on the Austrian side and is the oldest city on the lake
with its own floating theatre. We then cross into Germany to the picturesque island
of Lindau with its beautiful harbour and cobbled streets. The views from the
German shore across to the Swiss Alps are stunning.
FRIDAY – Sadly, we this morning bid farewell to St. Anton and begin our
homeward journey, making regular comfort stops en route, to our overnight hotel
in Liege.
SATURDAY – After breakfast, we travel back to Calais for the return ferry
crossing to Dover. From here we then continue our journey home, arriving
