P43 ®rotary jet mixerA system for controlling sludge andblending in crude oil storage tanks

What is P43®?The P43® machine was developed jointly by Exxon Researchand Engineering and Butterworth Systems as a replacementto side entering propeller mixers.Permanent installation and periodic use of these machinestotally eliminates the need for side entering propeller mixers, which results in substantial electrical cost savings as the P43®requires no electrical source. The P43® works by directing a submerged jet of crude oilacross the bottom of the storage tank, which dissolves andre-suspends the accumulated sludge throughout theoverhead oil.The P43® machine requires no electrical or other power sourceto operate. It is fluid dynamically powered, the nozzles beinggearbox driven by a fixed blade impeller assembly which isrotated by the continuous flow of fluid through the machine. This flow is provided by the filling of the storage tank innormal operations.?Mainbenefits of using P43 ®Considerable cost saving due to reducedtank outageValuable hydrocarbons are re-suspendedinto the crude oil and not wastedNo electricity or separate power required asunit operates from the existing feed pumpMinimal service requirements with theunits typically operating 15 yearsbetween servicesEliminates water trapping which cancontribute to corrosion of the tank floorleading to costly repair bills24 hours of operation each month givescomplete sludge control.Types of Permanent InstallationThe centre-mounted P43® isdesigned to be placed at thecentre of the tank or as nearas is practical, (on a previouslyinstalled inlet pipe). The two nozzles discharge asthe machine rotates in ananti-clockwise direction. The shell-mounted P43® isdesigned to be placed atthe tank wall, using theexisting tank shell manwayfor mounting. The machines rotate to givefull coverage. Only the nozzlefacing away from the tankshell discharges.P43® External Indicator MechanismThe P43® unit can also be supplied with a visual indicatormechanism. This operates via a flexible drive mechanism toshow that the unit is rotating freely. This allows the operator to check the unit is functioning withoutthe need for tank draining and inspection.contactVeolia Environmental Services (UK) PlcDock Road South, Bromborough, Wirral, CH62 4SQT: +44(0) 151 644 4300 F: +44(0) 151 644 4301E: info@veolia.co.ukwww.veoliaenvironmentalservices.co.uk/p43_site
