Volvo minis prove a great
success at Alloa Hire Centre
Moving in to mini excavator hire with a Volvo
EC15BXTV in March has proved to be a great
success for Alloa Hire Centre as it takes delivery
of a second unit for its expanding hire fleet.
Alloa Hire Centre Ltd is one of Scotland’s
longest established tool hire centres servicing
Clackmannanshire and the central belt with a
delivery and collection service.
Volvo patented tilting counterweight allows easy
access to the engine. The one-piece cab floor
makes it easy to reach the spool valves while the
hoses supplying the boom are fitted externally
along the boom, keeping all connections within easy
reach. Again, ease of serviceability is important to
Alloa Hire Centre since they carry out all their own
basic maintenance of the machines.
Established twenty one years ago, the family run
business had, up until recently, concentrated
its hire activities to just small tools and static
equipment. The opportunity to expand into mobile
plant presented itself with the move to new
premises on the outskirts of Alloa in 2005. After
a careful evaluation of the market and advice
from third parties, Alloa Hire Centre purchased
its first compact excavator in March last year.
“Our initial consideration in choosing the Volvo
product was the fact that they have a support
centre close by in Stirling,” commented company
director, Barry MacPherson. “We’ve been really
impressed with the performance and reliability but
more importantly, so have our customers and the
demand has been such that we’ve taken a second
EC15BXTV into the fleet.”

Both machines have been supplied with trailers,
manual quick hitches and a full complement
of buckets. The XTV version of the EC15B
provides the additional features of
extendable undercarriage and two
speed tracking and to enhance
operator comfort they have been
supplied with full cabs. All
components and service
points are within easy
reach on the EC15B.
