Community Outreach Programs
Kosher Meals-on-Wheels
The Jewish Home Family has been providing homebound
frail and the elderly with nourishing, nutritious,
hot meals — first in Hudson County since 1973 — and
by the late 70’s in Bergen County at the request of UJC
of Bergen County. The program delivers hot meals to our
sister Jewish agencies throughout Hudson, Bergen and
Passaic Counties aided by specialized food vans. The
meals — prepared at the Jewish Home at Rockleigh —
are under kashruth supervision of the Rabbinical Council
of Bergen County.
Begun in the fall of 2011, The Jewish Home Family
launched a Holiday Kosher-Meals-On-Wheels program.
This program delivers, with the use of Jewish Home
volunteers, to individuals in the community who
respond to notices for holiday meals for Rosh Hashanah,
Hanukkah and Passover. 197 hot Kosher holiday meals
were delivered in the inaugural year.
Kosher Nutrition Sites
This wonderful program invites seniors to share a
well-prepared kosher lunch in the company of their
contemporaries at eight sites throughout Bergen,
Hudson and Passaic Counties.
In Hudson County, the locations include the JCC
Bayonne under the auspices of Jewish Family Service of
Jersey City, Bayonne and Hoboken. In Bergen County,
the sites are located at the Y-JCC of Bergen County in
Washington Township, and the Teaneck Jewish Center.
We also supply meals to the Passaic County Department
of Human Services, and the Jewish Children’s and Family
Services of North Jersey.
Transportation
Program
In conjunction with
the Bergen County Division of Senior Services, Department
of Human Services, a door-to-door transportation
service provides the elderly or disabled transportation
with the assistance of an aide to medical appointments
and services at the Adler Aphasia Center, Gimbel Center
for MS at Holy Name Hospital, and the Medical Suites
at JHR.
Education Seminars for the Community
Community and professional seminars are offered on a
variety of subjects, ranging from financial planning for
women, Jewish medical ethics, planning for families with
elder care needs, understanding memory loss as well as
family care support groups.
Shabbat Worship and Meal Assistance
The Shabbat Worship program is aimed at those in the
community who would like to attend religious services
but are unable to get to services on their own, and the
meal assistance provides a home delivered kosher meal
for those who do not have the ability to prepare their
own Shabbat meal.
The elderly who would benefit from these programs are
identified by Rabbis and community agencies.
Geriatric Care Management
Launched in 2009, Jewish Home at Home helps families
and loved ones age in place at home (Please see pages
22 and 23.)
The kashruth at the Jewish Home at Rockleigh is under
the supervision of the Rabbinical Council of Bergen
County.
